Why are Upgrades only in Multiples of 5?

<div class="IPBDescription">Just wondering...?</div>Noticed everything, from buildings to lifeforms to upgrades all come in multiples of 5.

The only exceptions are the special abilities (enzyme, med/ammo packs, EMP etc) since rightly they are not worth 5 res.

Won't it be easier to tweak balance with other numbers being used? (e.g. Recent Upgrade Chamber & Arms Lab upgrade costs were all reduced by 5, which can be quite a big step).

Not a complaint, just wondering?

    have you noticed people with a 5 icon under their name ? i think they call it squad 5 ?

    it seems someone at UWE is obsessed with the number 5 :)

    Its easier to read things at a glance if you assume its base 5.

    There's no reasonable way to be certain what the perfect cost of something is within a margin of one point. Better to use rounded numbers that are easy to remember unless there's a really compelling reason not to.

    I like that abilities usually cost lower than 5 TRes, since on average both sides should hold up to 3 res towers for sustainability. Multiples of 5 does help me gauge between choices of upgrades, and they are easier to remember.

    Lifeform energy costs on the other hand...

    Maybe when they have balance figured out and they are just making small adjustments to get it fine tuned there would be a reason to use other numbers but right now there is just no point.

    - The marines have <b>5</b> weapons with ammo
    - The assault rifle contains <b>5</b> clips of 50 bullets (a multiple of <b>5</b>)
    - Most of the official maps (summit, tram, docking, and mineshaft) have <b>5</b> tech nodes
