Dissapointed with "standard" server browser

in NS2 General Discussion
First concern is about speed. It must be writen in one thread, because UI is iresponsible during populating the table/list of server.
Please make it into separate threead, then it can be sorted / selected without waiting for background thread.

2'ns the selection didn't persist .... WHY?

... It wasn't problem for me, as I was using non-flash menu ... but once consisteny check is here, we're forced to use vanilla NS2 instalation.

    Tbh, i doubt consistency-check will include menu files.

    But yeah, the new menu is a lackluster performance and featurewise.
    It doesnt feel the slightest responsive, you cant doubleclick to join games etc.

    Tho i like the design of it.

    when I have non-flash menu mod:
    - it always flip me to rookie mode after a while of playing
    - does not syng with steam information
    - can't connect to some servers (brecause some error of files)

    will look into it, but yeah: + look / - perfomance, bugs...

    There's really no reason why they shouldn't use the <i>perfect</i> menumod as official and put their visual style on top of it. You can say many things about the current official menu, but the easiest way would really be to just exchange it. Many things have been said, and when they look into it, there's one patch with a scrollwheel implementation and another sorting behavior...and then silence again. I'm not angry or something, I just don't understand the motivation not to use the mod.

    EDIT: It's not like we don't like the server browser or something, we just can't really use it.

    Seems like a great amount of time could be saved and a lot of feature requests checked off if it was incorporated.

    Yeah the current menu system is lacking a few features IMO.

    1) Sorting by server name is currently broken,. has been for a build or two
    2) Cant see who is on a server (i.e. right click in Menumod)
    3) No autojoin (yes I can use steam if a friend is on server)
    4) No filter by empty, tags, full, password
    5) No favorites
    6) general speed of menu
    7) To open server browser while on a server, I click "play" which is just weird
    8) would like it to show which mods are running on a server in some clean way


    That said, UWE has said the menu is a work in progress, so I hope we see some improvements before 1.0 . Hope lockdown doesn't preclude these

    This should not be viewed as a solution. This is still something that needs to be fixed before 1.0

    I agree. Also, it seems to me that the server browser loses a few servers everytime I refresh the list. And sadly not just those with red ping. That's one of the reasons why I think <i>quick refresh</i> function is needed.

    My main requests for the server browser are a way to stop the current server search so I can jump into that server that only has one slot left and for you guys to BRING BACK THE ABILITY TO SEARCH FOR SERVERS WHILE IN GAME!!!!

    One of my favorite server browsers in all its simplicity is the Red Orchestra 2 one.

    You can easily sort by ping, full/not full, max players, favourites, games your friends play etc.

    Some features that I would like to see in the "feature complete" NS2 server browser:

    Filters (Ping, passworded, max players etc)
    Favourites (Right click in browser to add fav, or add fav when in game)
    Friends (Connected to the steam list, so you can join on your friends through the game browser.)
    A way to queue join a game from the server browser. Spamming refresh until some reasonable-looking server becomes available just won't cut it.

    Oh yeah, I would LOVE to be able to hit ESC when the game is loading, because of reasons.
