This is not correct.
Forgive me then! How will the servers be handled? marine rounds on native servers?
Yes. Each teams marine round will be on a server they prefer.
Team USA plays marines first so they get to choose the server for the first round. Next round team EU plays on marines and gets to choose the server they prefer. So you switch the server between rounds.
It will have to be played on a lan for it to be Pr0CPLshiet. But its not its a fun cup to try to get some competation going in this competative community.
This is fair, but also a recipe for endless draws in a cup format. Need some sort of tie breaker rule, especially in a weekend cup like this.
Easy and relatively fair solution: Make the standard format (except for the final) best of three rounds. If the sides are tied 1-1, one more round will be played on the same map. The winner of a coin flip gets to decide between picking the server or picking sides. The loser of the coin flip gets whichever option is left (For example; team USA wins the coin flip and decides to play on <x US server>. Team EU then decides that they will play as marines).

This is exactly what we currently have except map changes to the next. I guess it would be better to just replay the current map.
I think a better solution is to simply play round robin or league format and call a tie just that. A tie. If you have 5 teams, the top team might go 4-0-0 or 3-0-1 where the second team might go 3-0-1 or 2-0-2. In this case where there is a tie for first place, you can have those two teams play multiple games to determine the champion. Say 6 matches and if they are still tied 3-3, then follow the coin flip procedure described above. This way you can still have shorter tournaments and minimize the impact of coin-flip-victories and/or server imbalances (ie 2 games on US server, 1 on euro).
In a rr or league format with n teams, each team would play 2*(n-1) halves or simply n-1 matches. If you have 6-8 teams signed up, this would only be 5-7 matches and would result in everyone getting to play each other. A lower skilled team wouldn't have to worry about getting matched up versus arc and getting knocked out in the first round without a chance to play any other teams who they'd be able to compete with.
US East (NY?) and Euro West (UK/Holland?).
Next time, I think you should make a more detailed post, with specific rulesets to be followed.
Also, you should announce 2-3 weeks in advance, instead of one week. More teams might sign up with the extra time.
And in general I don't think this topic made it very appealing.
I also believe you could have done more than this topic to advertise for it.
Ban this admin. ;-)
Guess they rather want to see the small competitive community do nothing, than have some fun? :P
edit: also ensl isnt userfriendly at all, if it didnt exsist already i wouldnt have a single idea where to create a team and how to sign up :X (im happy that i at least found out where to see the open contest... tried to find it under night cubs, other or ensl in the sub menu first... the way the nav works makes it counter-intuitive to click one the "main link" => contests)
If we're being generous, there are five euro teams and maybe the same amount of american teams. Out of those, only four are actually active though.
Arc, duplex, ex, nxzl, inv, all in, cyd, mr, rwd, i.f, finnstack, 156, sr, rev, t^, 420, hbz.
Those who signed are: arc, duplex, finnstack.
Those who are active (we played them recently) and did not sign are:
ex, nxzl, all in, cyd, mr, rwd. I also think inv are somewhat active.
I think at least one of these could have signed. Sotg might not be top, but its weird that these teams regurarly play pcws, but refuses to play NC.
Some of those teams are active in the same sense that my grandfather is an active 83 year old...
--EDIT--
I guess nearly everything worked out afterall.
If teams need more than a week to sign up, they're not going to actually play anyway.
