confusion?
Just a thing a noticed and probatly already have been taken up in the forum but just in case the phasegates should not be on a circle pattern in my opinion, causes a lot of running in and out just to get to the right one.

suggestions?

mine would be having comm put numbers linking 2 pg's togheter or selecting where to phase by entering port and pressing 1 for pg1 and so on...

Thank you for reading

Its been this way since the very beginning, and to be honest, it kind of feels like a tradeoff thing.

If you want to hold multiple locations on the map, and you want rapid transportation to all of them, then you are going to run into some logistical problems.

They should add a map selection menu when you phase.

Been suggested before. Interesting concept, but cumbersome for 2 or 3 PGs when it's just faster to run in and out of them.

what about having the commander choose to which one you phase to first?

What if the phase gate has a transparent view of the other side so you see where it leads too?

a simple network diagram of the on minimap would be plenty, so you can see how many times you need to phase (kind of like a subway diagram).

Yeah phase gate should work like a portal in portal.

Show you whats on the other side, that would look freaking awesome. But its probably a nightmare to program i would imagine. But it would definitely be a lot cooler than the plain boring blue graphic.

PGs can be weird. You would run right next to one but not through it and it'll still teleport you anyway.

I think having a "Portal"-like PG would ruin the Unknown feel before you cross through. You don't know if you'll end up safe or into an Alien meat grinder. we'll the map can tell you, but still :P Also Aliens would be able to go through it because nothing prevents them from crossing into the PG since they too can see the other side of the other PG :P Think of the blue effect as a protective and encrypted veil to keep anyone else from seeing through it and to keep them out. Marines only, ######.

Also I don't like the pause or freeze when you're going through the PG. The effect is nice that can stay, just mean I rather run through and instantly appear on the other side like running through a hole with the effect in the middle. This might just be a performance issue since it's loading up another area for you, so I hope that's fixed.

This phase gate shows a blank wall. Hmm... I wonder what room it is.

I personally think it is fine how it is. There are more important fish to code before 1.0.

do you guys mean this would be a good idea? :)

It would also be nice if the destination phasegate is getting attacked that all other phase gates flash red and the blue holographic thingy goes red and static with each hit to indicate malfunction on the other end (and you don't go thru to your doom, unless everyone else is going in with you) :)

    ooohhh
    this

might be easy to do aswell... letting the pg grab the location name and send it to the previous pg in chain. but i hope theres a way to make the text look like a hologram floating in front of the phase field, not just some cheap floating text, but with slightly transparent textured fonts from a palette, and make one side of the gate let you phase forward, and the other side phase you back one gate

    I wouldn't be against this. =P

I don't think it detracts from anything in particular if you get told where the phase gate goes.

I mean, it gives a player more certainty where they'll end up, but it doesn't seem to provide any unfair advantages or anything. Like say, I originally was thinking of that idea about phase gates showing you what's on the other side in real time, portal-style. But then I decided that (even if the engine is made to handle it) it'd have an appreciable effect on gameplay in that marines could tell if they're going to be ambushed as soon as they step through. Also people might waste bullets shooting at a phasegate trying to hit what's on the other side, portal-style. =P (though that'd be easy to clear up with experience or a tool-tip.)

As for the text looking like a distorted hologram in the field, I'm sure anything's possible. =P Though that effect would probably come later after a place-holder one to test if the concept is good or not.

Even if the words couldn't be displayed that way, you could still keep immersion by having like a display they have on busses to tell you where they're going just be above the phase gate. Make it obvious that floating text is AR display on your hud, etc...

Yeah I like that idea. I think the circling the PG's is good enough for me without havening to manaly choose where to go or to enter a separate PG for diffrent room, but to know where i will end up would be a nice addidtion.

I just miss when the phasegate was a pad and you'd hit your use key and "zap!": teleportation. No messy running in and out timing and more control, no accidental phasing ever due to loading choke. Maybe a bit slower in some cases but more controlled, simple and elegant. But it's far too late for that I suppose I personally don't see these new phasegates ever being to my liking in comparison though.

And the phasegates already show their destination when you look at them, or they used to anyways, I'd personally forgotten about the feature and just sort of remember the patern.

A pop down menu when entering the phase gate of various exit locations would be fairly easy to implement.

You would likely need to change the phase gate model for it to work so more than one rine could stand in the location where you access the menu.

You would also need to add a phasing queue to prevent whole teams of marines being able to phase instantly.

Okay, maybe not an "easy" change.

It should at least tell you where you are arriving. So when you show up in Terminal the words TERMINAL should flash across your screen.
