On a more serious note though, the internet tough guys you'll find on SRK and the like definitely fit the hostile bill. But in real life most fighting fans seem pretty good natured, especially at tournies (I sometimes go to tournaments with no real intention of competing. I'm just there to soak in the atmosphere and have fun, though admittedly I did place 3rd in the Soul Calibur V tournament I last went to... 1st and 2nd were two of my friends XD)
Sadly that doesn't always translate across the interwebs... when playing online it's a lot more mixed. All my 'negative feedback' on xbox live is from playing fighting games and they're all "unsporting" because I play the game properly instead of following whatever random rules people have made up ("no! don't run away from my zangief! that's unsporting! you're supposed to stand right next to me and take it in the face so I can win!") I've also had a good number of people disconnect on me rather than 'lose' (usually on their last bits of health in the last rounds) It's pretty bad in that respects :/ On the other side some of the good will still exists and i've had a few people add me to their friends list after fighting games from some friendly PMs back and forth afterwards saying "good game! :D" and exchanging tips and whatnot :3
I guess most of the negative stuff is just because a lot of the people attracted to fighting games are competitive. I'm not, but as with most things in life I'm more of an exception than the rule :P
...that all said, CPU Seth is worse than half the community and will probably make you want to break your nice new pad across your knee ;D

You are playing Super Street fighter no?
IV was bad cause folks would just run away and do nothing but fk as bison or sagat, you can beat it with (once again) patients and good timing, but it's harder cause ppp lariat got slight nerf in super
you should just play some rounds with Gemmy LF!!! easy solution
Hell I would get some slick FACD (focus attack cancel Dash) to ultras getting people to disconnect. Also you get alot of people who run away and if you patiently push them to a corner and then punish the escape attempts (neutral jumping fierce punch which is a headbutt as zangief does inane and insane amounts of stun
also http://media.photobucket.com/image/recent/.../SagatFLOW2.jpg
also another thing I'm amazed no one has asked: How much did you get it for! Physical copy?

Darn you, steam sales! I've already gotten a few nice deals though.
Funny enough, this thread got me thinking to buy that controller I linked earlier. I can get it for €40,- here, wireless 'n all - not bad. *ponders*

That's always an idea.
I remember buying an aftermarket original xbox controller when I had my first xbox.
It was bigger than the original xbox controller.
I loved it to bits because i have big hands so the xbox controler is what I would call 'normal sized'.
Still, 360 one is good enough, hated the original PS1 controllers though, and the PS2 ones to an extent. Too small.

I do have pretty big hands, bigger than anyone I know. Xbox didn't feel smallish, felt comfortable.
PS ones are small though, and the old NES controllers are really fiddly.
Also I can't use mobile phones :(

Actually I generally go through two or three sets of rechargables a year on my headphones, but I use them constantly.
It is a bit of a pain but it works out cheaper than buying new headphones because I ate the wires on the old ones.
Oh also protip: don't absent mindedly chew the cables on your controller while watching cutscenes because having your teeth electrocuted is a very odd feeling.

Enter why I stopped playing fighting games after Street Fighter II. There's a level of 'taking this too seriously' that gets hit REALLY fast.
Again, if you like the PS2 controller, get an adapter; most have it show up as a generic HID device and don't require any further drivers. Some sell clone-pads that are PC-only, but cost as much as an adapter. They work great, and you can easily swap between other devices. If you have a PS3 gamepad, there are the MotionJoy DS3 (freeware) drivers that let you hook it up via USB (no bluetooth required!) and have all of the benefits with the minor annoyance that it might turn your PS3 on in the other room, and have to re-bind it back and forth when you swap systems.
If you want to get uber-serious about fighting games, I'm sure you know that you'll want to buy a fighting stick. But the rest of us normal people don't need one, and a standard gamepad is far more multipurpose than a HUGE STONKING PIECE OF KIT that may help you to succeed with one game. This is the same kind of ridiculous crap that sim-pilots start buying into. Which is great if you're REALLY into that ONE game/genre. But again, most normal folks can get by with a standard keyboard/mouse/gamepad and be perfectly happy with the game they picked up for $5 without shelling out 40x that for a space-wasting unitasker.

I resent the unitasker implication Tal!
I used the macro functions on my arcade stick for metal slug / raiden fighters when I don't want to press the fire button over and over and I used my USB sticks for alot more than just fighters. It's called an "arcade stick" for a reason
let me put it this way: you wanna play pac man on a pad?
C'mon what? You move up, down, left or right. We're talking about Pac Man here, it has the simplest of control schemes. It's not like you need to do dpm+FP to eat a power pellet.

I set up some CPU vs. CPU matches so I could watch it a bit, and CPU2 got nine wins before CPU1 got one. Weird.
