Starting with the original lurker flight redesign they subsequently destroyed NS1 with patches ending with the coup de grace that was NS combat, so it's hard to think they are capable of turning this poop-storm of broken features into a complete and balanced game.
If someone wants to buy the game for me I'll play on your team for the summer but for now I'm refusing to support the people who basically deleted what was my favorite game of all time. What was once a complex and hard to master but rewarding flight mechanic was changed into a hovering piece of crap that spammed gas clouds... I haven't played NS in so long but the pain of that horrible patch still burns my skull.
Reading over these forums does not give me any hope, as the DEVs appear to lock suggestion threads if the criticism isn't 100% constructive kiss-ass. All the while being reminded of the knee-jerk attitude that caused the original Damage Net leader to bring down all of his servers and leave the community.
I kinda half-agree with what you're saying, and with 1.1 I take it you mean 1.04. 2.0 did fix a boatload of problems (like the movement-chamber being underused, and the sensory-chamber being downright ###### useless). I do agree that 2.0 lost a lot of the tightness of 1.04, basically you could count every bullet coming out of your LMG in 1.04. Often I would stop firing even before I got confirmation the skulk had died, simply because I counted x number of bullets leaving the gun and hitting the skulk, things were THAT tight. In 2.0 the LMG became more of a spray-gun, less accurate and firing-sounds that didn't clue you in about how many times a bullet had fired. Another nitpick with 2.0 was the new HMG-sound, which was god-awful. In 1.04 it sounded like a bloody cannon, a bit weird but cool nonetheless, in 2.0 it became an incredibly sharp and PAINFUL to the ears sound, made it me want to use it less.
NS2 is often said to be less tight than NS1 3.0, so the comparison between NS2 and NS1 1.04 is one that is just sad in how much worse things have become. I'm not expecting the dev-team to able to bring us proper gameplay by the way, I think the past has proven they just cannot understand or appreciate it. It'll come down to performance pretty much. If the gains of the optimizations are truly incredible, then a lot can be fixed through modding, and we may still have a decent game on our hands. Though if the optimizations are heading more towards a factor of just 2x (what NS2HD hinted at in a blog-post), the game is dead and it becomes a sinking-ship that needs to be abandoned.

Just to note, the only reason duplex is inactive at the moment, is because I'm away from home, and have been since thursday last week. We should become active again from sunday, so TrC, pcw sunday? 20.00 CET?

People (and teams) aren't playing the new patch because it has a few gimmicks which kill competitiveness. Celerity, Lerk Bite, Cyst spam, Onos (still!!!!!11!!11). I've played a few gathers and a scrim or two including a few versus you guys. The best strategy in any alien situation is simply celerity -> multiple lerks -> spam cysts, winos if you haven't already beaten marines. It's impossible to take b209 game play seriously, even more-so-impossible than some of the previous builds.
B210 is the first step toward better game play with everything on tres and pres. I have doubts that b210 is going to be competitively playable, but it will definitely be a good starting point. I hope the devs can successfully tweak b210 resource models in the following patches; we may see the game get back to the semi-competitive state it was back in 203 or 204 when all the new teams started popping up. And hopefully it'll grow from there.
On a side note: I'm usually down to scrim if teams need a ringer. I can be found in the NS2 steam group.

Also... not putting much expectations in 210, but 211 hell yeah.
Personally I'm having high expectations for 210, as energy seems to go away. A suggestion of mine, from long ago, that was put down by Charlie with the words: "I don't think there is anything wrong with energy". It seems he finally realized that energy took away all the trade-offs there was supposed to be in the res model. The spamwar should be over soon.
I wouldn't expect wonders from 210. The energy removal is amazing and great for balance but they are, at the same time, doubling the res production and you know it's going to take a few patches to fine tune the overall economy.. I also fear for some of the alien t3 abilities.
It's the polish that might come after 210 that has potential imo

As far as i understood res flow and costs are doubled to make medpacks and ammo a viable option when they cost tres. With the current resource values meds and ammo would be little bit too expensive unless they cost like ½ res each, which looks weird in the UI compared to cost 1 and doubling all other res costs.
