The servers all reboot every day at 5AM regardless of what is occuring. They will also reboot when they have people playing, and the player count goes back to 0.
As for the authentication issues, i'm sorry I don't have an answer. I was tracking it down to do with people who have high MTU's set on their router, but then when I test at an MTU of 1500, I can connect fine.
Also not sure why it would stop working from this morning to this afternoon, send me a PM if you'd like to try a few things.
endar, just a question about the Monash server? Is there any change you could support the stat collecting mod for <a href="http://www.ns2stats.org/" target="_blank">http://www.ns2stats.org/</a> I don't believe there are any servers in Australia that do.

You guys (and your friends and families) should start emailing Google to see if you could convince them to try their gigabit fiber server in Australia (see <a href="https://fiber.google.com/about/" target="_blank">here</a>).

My game hangs soon after I try to connect to Monash (before I join the RR), but I can join other servers without a hitch.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Hello, both pre and post b217 myself, my gf and my brother have been unable to connect to any of the monash servers, always getting a timeout message appear after sitting on the loading screen for 60-90 seconds. My gf and I are both playing from the same network, however my brother is about 50kms away with a different ISP.
this only seems to be occurring with the monash servers.
as monash are generally the only servers in Aus with low ping that actually have people playing... this is very frustrating to say the least.
You could try subscribing to all custom ns2 on the steam workshop, if you already havent. There seems to be some problems with it not downloading them correctly. Even if the server is running official map at the time you try to join it, you will still need to subscripe to them.
Heres a thread with the OP having similiar problem. <a href="http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns2/forums/index.php?showtopic=120456" target="_blank">http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns2/forums/in...howtopic=120456</a>
Hm. Are you guys seeing the Monash servers in the game's server browser? If so that confirms some degree IP connectivity. At that point I'd guess it's some kind of ACL problem at Monash's end, a socket/traffic type filtering rule somewhere. <strike>I wonder if you all have the same ISP.</strike> Edit: I see you've answered that already.
The good news is that the crashes caused by network problems seem to have been resolved in b217. I haven't had a single client crash this build, so I'm guessing something in the net code has changed. The only thing I can think to suggest is if any of you happen to have access to some kind of vpn tunneling service, try that.
Does it timeout every time you try, without fail, or does it work sometimes?
We are using the in game server browser. This has been happening for me for, as far as i can remember, the last several weeks/months. i'm pretty sure that i have never been able to connect successfully to Monash servers. It times out every time we try.
If i try to connect to to another server however, it works exactly as advertised "[oNoes] Public #1" for example works great, but the ping is 100+, as opposed to 20-30 for monash.
Previously we had been playing on Game Arena servers without a hitch, but since they disappeared, and Monash has taken over as the local server of choice, we have been unable to play *sad face*
Ok, that you've never been able to join is pretty telling. I wish I knew more about NS2's error logging (if there is any client side?) and what ports/protocols it uses. Knowing these things might not solve the problem but I'd sure like to rule other stuff out. I have three suggestions but they're all longshots... 1, try joining the monash servers after you've successfully joined another server. 2, try joining via a steam friend/group. 3, try and join a monash server with no other players.
Not much more I can offer tonight but I'll start pestering Ish and Endar to see if they can figure something out :)

thanks for the help Khyron, off to bed now but will attempt these methods of which you speak come morning, then report back here with my stories of success... i hope.

So i looked for the log file but couldn't find one... checked through all the sub folders as well as the 'logs' folder, they are either empty or not relevant.
as for the other suggestions, i successfully joined another server jumped around for a bit, then d/c and joined an EMPTY Monash server, but no luck. also of note as i don't think i've said this yet, but when trying to connect to the monash servers, the 'loading' screen does not get passed the Authentication stage before i timeout.
have not been able to try the friend invite method as the only other people i can try it with (gf and bro) can't connect either. we are all in QLD btw.
thanks for the advice anyway Khyron, we very much appreciate your assistance regardless :D
Not going to bother coming back till 1.1 after 1.0 gets realesed and they discover more things wrong, and patch it XD. Good to know decent aus servers back though.

I've removed all mods from server #1, which is currently running Veil (only). Removing mods from the server, or subscribing to all mods has solved the problem for 1 person so far, but it also made no difference for someone else.
hello endar, thanks for looking into this for me. i just tried to connect to Monash #1 but unfortunately, had the same issue, doesn't get past the authentication stage, then times out *sad face*

this isn't just you I think it may be one of those rare ' some people get it but some people don't ', game bugs. I've had 4 or 5 people come to me with the same problem. unable to solve it. :/
I am not able to join Monash server too since b217. I can join fine with non-monash server. This must be server issue. Maybe check the firewall setting. Please get this sorted asap! thanks
<strike>Hi guys. I managed to get Ishamael on the phone today and went over the problems and suggestions in this thread. It's difficult to solve without seeing more error information in client side logs - timeouts aren't descriptive enough when we see some people consistently able to connect while others are never able to connect (maybe petition UWE to have better logging)... but enough griping, here are some new suggestions.
IPv6. Quite likely your computer supports IPv6, and the Monash network supports IPv6, but there might be a routing problem between the two places. Go in to your Local Area Connection Properties and temporarily disable IPv6 by unchecking "Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)" (or similar). Then try joining the game. For the sake of completeness, you might also like to do an "ipconfig /renew" and restarting your router can't hurt.
<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maximum_transmission_unit" target="_blank">MTU</a> Monash supports very large MTUs, so he thought there might be something there causing packet fragmentation -> packet loss -> timeout kind of thing. I don't know what you can do to fix/change/influence this from your desktop, but I thought I'd at least mention it as something you can look in to. A quick search yielded a <a href="http://support.microsoft.com/kb/826159" target="_blank">Microsoft support</a> page with one of those magic "fix it" buttons, so maybe worth reading about.</strike>
Edit: Problem has now been fixed server side. Enjoy!

Success! Anyone who has had an issue connecting to Monash servers in the past, it is now working.
The cause was the cisco VPN client, which used to be installed on the server. By default it drops all network connections MTU to 1300, not just the virtual adaptor. The software was installed so long ago that I completely forgot about it, it has now been set back to 1500, and i've had various reports from 5+ people that its now working.
Just had a guy who immediately joined the server after the change, makes me wonder how long he sat there hitting join.
The more I read the thread the more I started to have a hunch it might be a path MTU problem... Really hard to spot, those, unless you've encountered them before. Glad to hear you've got it sorted out ;)

i was hopeful that would solve the issue, so i subscribed to all 22 items in the workshop, waiting for them all to down load and tried again...
still timed out :(
