Does anyone remember back in NS1 days when EVERYONE hated steam? it was devil-incarnate but these days everyone seems to love it and kiss Gabes ass, personally I still hate it because it's DRM and any DRM is bad.

I think Steam is one of the best game distribution platforms available. Imagine how could they distribute the patches without it! Steam is great. Show some love. :)

NS2 is probably the only game I've seen to have so many problems with steam updates and master servers. It's probably due to being in a private steam beta so it doesn't have the same level of priority as some other titles.

Yeah it's great now it's all running. But they completely DESTROYED gaming communities, when they decided to get rid of WonID over night and then made it compulsary to have Steam to play a list of games. Bare in mind, millions of people trying to download Steam.exe was a major fail people had to wait weeks before playing their games again, which for me, killed my whole TFC Community. Every since then, Steam have done nothing to make up for that D:

Correct me if I'm wrong but as far as I know it's up to the game to decide whether to allow playing in offline mode or not.

ugh yes.
Old story but I took my PC to my dads a couple years ago and figured i'd play some games offline because he had no internet connection, guess what? because I didn't already start the games while online, it refused to let me play them offline until I first went online with them.. had to go out and buy a 56k modem and dial up to "activate" the games I wanted to play.

? All you have to do is run steam offline ONCE on that PC and it saves your info for future use? that's pretty easy. I used my games offline for 8 months at one time in my life.
Wonid had TONS of issues, and was already splitting every single community for days with "patching", you'd have older version servers and newer versions servers while you waited to get your patch. it was a horrible mess and steam solved all of that and since then has essentially saved PC gaming. Hard to really say it has done "nothing" after considering that and it's stats in the industry. (what was the last figure i heard, steam is worth $4 billion now?) Green man gaming is awesome, and occasionally so is D2D, but neither offers the sheer amount of features that steam does, all for free. and lets not forget steam's prices and sales. (at just a quick glance, GMG is selling Space Marine at a higher price during a promo than steam is without a promo!)
