Hi, thinking of upgrading to an i5 2500k. Would overclock to 4-4.5Ghz.
Can anyone with the same set up comment on what sort of performance they're getting with this cpu?

I have i5 2500k Overclocked to 4.3GHz. It gives me FPS of 40-80. Usually when i look at the fps it's around 60. I can really recommend this CPU for NS2. It gives probably the most value for your money and the game runs pretty well.

Mine is running at 4.6Ghz. FPS is capped at 100 in the readyroom or spectator mode. Early game I get around 75-80 FPS, getting progressively lower throughout the game/amount of stuff happening but it rarely seems to dip below 50-ish. I would recommend it, the game is more than playable at all times. My graphics card is a 6870HD.

I get the same results as MuYeah above.

I would say make sure you got the other bits to go with it. I play at 15-40fps (15 in late game combat). And I got 4gb ram and 6450 HD. I need to upgrade my graphics card apparently to maximise performance out of my CPU or something D: But yeah if you got a good GPU go go go ^_^

So here's what I get with my system (2500k OCd to 4.5GHz, AMD 6950, 16GB RAM):

Summit, 20 min Fraps benchmark
Min: 23 fps
Max: 94 fps
Average: 48 fps

Yeah, the i5 is a great chip for NS2. In fact, any of the iX series is pretty much. The more you overclock the better obviously, however the game has been performing much better, I've not needed to overclock my older i7 920 at all (2.66Ghz) for quite a while now. I hit similar numbers to ScardyBob and the others.
