Could someone make a instructional thread?
Could someone please create detailed directions on how to install mods and maps? This would be great for people like myself who don't already know. I've learned how to do it now but i'm certainly not capable of writing out directions for it. I think this would be really helpfull for new players and it would also have more people testing out new maps and mods which could help those who spend time creating them. If any brave soul could create a new thread with these directions it would be greatly appreciated by myself and others.

So here's a step-by-step guide (you might want to sticky this if more people got problems with installing custom maps).
1. Look into the downloaded zip/rar file. If it contains any folders proceed with a). If not with b)
a) folder structure included
2. In the Natural selection 2* folder look for the names of the folders contained in the download. You only need to look for the directories that are directly in the zip/rar file, there's no need looking for subfolders contained within them. For example if your download contains a folder named "ns2" this one is found in the Natural Selection 2 main folder. If it contains a folder named "maps" this one is in "Natural Selection 2\ns2". If it contains a folder named "overviews", this one is in "Natural Selection 2\ns2\maps". And well, if the download contains a folder named "Natural Selection 2", I think you will guess this one.
3. Extract the zip/rar file into the folder that contains the same folders that are in the zip/rar. For example a zip/rar file that contains a folder named "ns2" would be extracted into "Natural Selection 2". A file that contains a folder "Natural Selection 2" is to be extracted into Steamapps, I hope you can figure out the rest. It's important that you extract always in the parent directory of the directory in the downloaded file, NOT in the same directory. For example extracting a zip/rar file that contains a folder named ns2 into ns2 would result in the creation of a subfolder ("ns2\ns2"). That is of course totally wrong. If you do extract in the right folder, no new folders will be created and the files will simply be put into the correct place automatically.
b) no folder structure, only plain files
2. Look for folders that contain files of the same type as the files in the archive and put them there. For example .level files and files ending on _skybox.cinematic go into "ns2\maps". .tga and .hmp files likely go into "ns2\maps\overviews".
*"C:\program files\Steam\Steamapps\common\Natural Selection 2"
The above steps are actually really simple and fully logical. It only got a little long because I added a lot explanations to make this absolutely fail-save. This makes it look like it is a little complicated, but I tell you, it isn't. (If you immediately get it, you only really need the first sentence of each step).
Or was the real problem that the Galdan didn't figure out that you need to extract the downloaded file at all? No, the Natural Selection 2 and most games don't read zip files. (Some do). Looks like gamers these days got really spoilt by programs like Steam doing everything for them, so they are immediately overstrained if they have to do something manually. (Heck this makes me sound old. And I'm only 23)

This is what i got out of it, and i think it does a good job of explaining maps, what about mods though?
ofcourse without " or * or ().
