Can anyone add a "Squad Uplink" option to the Armory menu for me?

<div class="IPBDescription">I have the Lua side, but need Flash help.</div>I'm working on a mod to add a purchasable "Squad Uplink" for marines. While you have one, nearby marines are in your squad, and respawn at you when they die. The basic mod is mostly done, but I'm using a console command to buy the thing because I don't have anything to edit Flash menus.

Can anyone work with me to add the option in the Armory buy menu?

Also seeking model artists to make a "squad uplink" model. It would maybe sit on a marine's shoulder, and fall on the ground when they die.

So, you get people into 1 squad, somebody runs into a hive, rest of the squad suizides. Win?

This works in pure fps games like battlefield, but really not in a game like ns2

Only one way to find out ;)

You'll have to get the tech, so not an immediate rush. Squads will form on proximity, so the marine with the squad uplink has to be near the hive, too, and if she gets killed then the squad stops (at least until the uplink gets picked up again, not sure). There will be the same (or a different) cool down to respawn at the squad beacon, so if four marines die it'll take a minute for them all to spawn back in (much longer than aliens, unless all the eggs get popped).

If you're going to have an Uplink thing, it should be highly visible to everyone who is carrying the Uplink and the Uplink "tool" should provide some visual indicator akin to the IP "spin-up" when spawning squads in.

Obviously, the downside to the Uplink is everyone spawns in with default equipment and only as fast as an IP spawn rate (maybe slightly faster OR slower with multiple spawns at once (akin to the beacon)?).

In addition the Uplink should not be dropped like a weapon to prevent abuse.

There is not many tangible benefits to having a squad of Marines carrying an Uplink really as well, since it's there to spawn in dead Marines and when they're dead they're no longer providing an Uplink. The only real benefit is insurance that the initial wave "should" have at least 1 Uplink survivor at the end.

The Hive rush w/ Uplink scenario does not work since: the Uplink only spawns in Marines as fast as an IP (so, basically a portable IP) and everyone suiciding to spawn on the Uplink will be met with a queue resulting in the probable death of the Uplink carrier.

If you have multiple spawns at once, it works slightly better than a forward beacon drop.

I think it could work, but getting a fine balance of mechanics and timings is important! However, I am adamant that is be highly visible at all times!

Maybe the squad gate wasn't a bad idea after all, spending 10 res at it lets you transport to the location of any player.

Maybe, it could be a purchasable infantry portal, say, 10 res, that only supports one spawn? (like a mine, but instead as an ip)
So you could only really spawn in one guy, that would make it both useful and balanced at the same time.

    Sounds cool.

We don't use flash any more but instead have our own UI system in Lua.

Having it researched and purchased at the prototype lab would fit well. A tech backpack that would essentially make the marine a squad leader of sorts, and wouldn't be dropped upon death.

Balancing the decision of jetpacks, exosuits, and squad spawning.

How about some blue lightning and glow coming from the antennae while it charges up.

Imho the uplink should be deployed (with a significant cast time) before usage, to prevent mad rushes.

    I like this idea:
So lategame-tech for a marine, he can choose between Exo/jetpack or spawner-backpack.

And just let it spawn at the same intervals like an IP.
    Upsides:
    more quad-teamplay
easier to press on an assault
    Downsides:
You can't wear any other techs
players you spawn can't gear up at the base, so you get more but weaker soldiers at the frontline.
