We are trying to get a patch out before the tournament. Right now we're performing major surgery on the game and its guts are strewn out all over the operating table, but our goal is to get it put back together in time.

Why not delay the tournament until 188 is released? You know, if the update makes the game more playable maybe its best to be safe.

Delaying much more will push the finals into holiday season. But I really hope at least an intermediate patch can go live before the tourny. The balance issues right now are very bad and it will be a pain for NS2HD to deal with so many ties (aliens win all the rounds).

It's tricky - The tournament is intended to be a 188 affair, but as Quovatis says it might not be possible to push back much longer. Either way it's going to be lots of fun!

On topic - I think the tournaments are a good thing for a number of reasons; such as having two teams of close to equal skill testing balance & different playstyles as well as allowing for casters (and the devs) to see what tools they'll need to make casting of NS2 games be as easy and intuitive as possible. Add to this the fact that it increases interest in NS2 and is also <i>fun</i> for all involved then I fail to see what your criticism would be.

Oh no no no, you mustn't look at the technical-tasks the same way as the gameplay-tasks. There could be as much as a full month (or more) between each and every one of those tasks. It should probably only show the first and second task (like it did a while back).

Also on an unrelated note, the term 'troll' has been subject to inflation well past to what it used to stand for.

They can request it, but its a pointless request. To do that you need a license for Fraps, and that total amount of money for licenses would FAR surpass that of the prize money. IF someone wants to cheat, well we cant stop them. But considering most people in this community know almost all the others, I think cheating will be quite low if present at all.

I also dislike that the tournament is for money, but more because it detracts from one of the main purposes of the tournament, which is to showcase NS2.

Also, I'd like to see the tournament played on B187. In particular, I think there really needs to be at least a week between the start of the tournament and the latest patch to ensure that everyone is familiar with it and that their are no game-breaking bugs or exploits that need hotfixed. Even if we got B188 early next week, I think it'd be a little to soon to ensure a smooth tournament.

B187 isn't perfect, but its stable, has (mostly) improved performance, and no major game-breaking bugs or exploits.
