After two hours of play I am a little over halfway to unlocking the cheapest class. There are classes that cost ten times as much. Don't think of it as free to play, think of it as a demo. Actually, you should think of anything that claims "free to play" as a demo.
But it's free to try at least. The demo gives you access to two classes, which are not highly dissimilar to each other. One has a powerful explosive launcher and a dinky pistol, the other has an assault rifle that's a bit better than the pistol and a somewhat worse explosive launcher, otherwise they're identical. Buying all the classes in the game will cost you 40 euros. It's slightly cheaper than that in microcurrency, but the cheapest package you can buy that'll give you enough microcurrency costs 40 euros, so that's what I'm setting the price tag at.
Current game modes are team deathmatch, capture the flag, and rabbit. I have only tried CTF, and I don't feel any particular need to try the other two. CTF has always been where the meat is at.
Vehicles are curiously absent from the game. Oh sure, they exist, but they're so rare as to barely have any impact on the game. You earn credits during a match that can be used to improve your base, or to buy vehicles. Vehicles are however so expensive that most people don't even bother with them. Once a vehicle shows up it quickly draws the enemy team's fire and vanishes in an expensive explosion that could have bought several permanent base upgrades instead. If vehicles were your favourite part about Tribes, this may not be your game.
Right now I am not sold on it. It's missing things I loved about Tribes 2 (like being able to run around with a repair pack yet remain somewhat combat effective, or like vehicles, or like customisable classes), but it doesn't add a lot to the formula. But I'll keep an eye on it. If it gets some more maps, and if vehicles become an integral part of the game instead of a gimmick, I may be willing to spend on it. But right now it's not convincing enough to spend money on, and too grindy to not spend money on.
Edit: I unlocked the class that costs 900 ingame-earned-thingies (the cheapest one) after another two hours of play. It's heavy armour with a spinfusor and a plasma mortar. The plasma mortar is mostly-useless as always, meaning that it's essentially a slower, tougher version of the regular medium with spinfusor. Again, I miss class customisation. Also, most of the classes cost 9800 credits, so look at about forty hours of grinding for each? You can shell out for boosters to double your gain, but I say that if you're going to open your wallet anyway, save yourself the time and just buy the classes outright.
I should clarify: I could unlock nearly every class in the game with the shazbucks included with the $30 VIP thingo, but I haven't because the soldier default one is so much bloody fun.

That text was just to avoid quoting your entire thesis, it wasn't meant as a dismissal of your points. I think the vehicles should be about half the cost, but not free as they were in T2. No custom loadouts is also a bummer, I'm hoping they'll consider adding a custom class later.

There's no excuse for custom class not to be there. If they're afraid of losing revenue, I suggest only letting custom class access the weapons, armours, and packs that other classes have already unlocked.
Not sure why that class is called the jumper. Should be called the booster instead.
I still dunno. I'm certainly not going to grind for forty hours for that. It does look fun, I'd love to have a more nimble class to work with, but I'm not sure it's worth the effort.
Edit: Since you need to earn loads and loads of ingame currency there is a lot of pressure to perform. Not as a team, but individually. Adopt vital but low-scoring roles such as base defense or repair, and the game will punish you for it with accordingly low rewards. I'll repeat what I said before: The game isn't free. The free part is a demo for the moneycost portion.
