Quick idea for spores

<div class="IPBDescription">Simply an idea</div>I got this idea as I was reading the flamethrower/ignitable spores thread and wondered if it had been tossed around to make spores do incremental damage.

Question: What is the purpose of spores?
Answer: Crowd control/ very temporary area denial
Basic idea: Spending a second in the spores is negligible, but staying in them is extremely hazardous.
Achieved by: Making spores do higher damage the longer a marine is exposed to them.(ie: 1 second of spores does, say, 5 damage, but spending four seconds does some absurd amount of damage like 40 per second and so forth)
Result: When gas goes off, the marine gets an initial panic because they don't want to be in the gas, because it is fearsome, but it is not game breaking as long as the marine moves out of it.

Cons: ? There are certainly some, but I am out of time for this post.

Just wanted to throw this idea out there, as I imagine this forum as a sort of Utopian brainstorming platform.

Spores don't cover enough area to make them amazing good at area denial outside of small areas. The problem with increasing spore damage over time is simply that marines are just going to run through them (they already do) to the squishy lerk, except now they'll take even less damage. There's certainly no issue with marines now standing in spores and fighting. If spores are supposed to deny area they should probably cover a larger area than they do now with their current damage. I can't remember the last time I was killed by spores, much less by a lerk. They're just not very threatening to even a rifle armed marine. Right now the lerk is kind of in a bad place without a well defined role.

Not sure it'd be a good idea really for balance but having them cover the area of the crag's umbra would probably give it more of an area of denial feel, it'd need to either do pitiful damage still or cost more to fire and do proper damage to compensate though.

Admittedly though, I personally just want it to do armor damage again and scale with the damage upgrades rather than this silly armor ignoring thing to keep scaled with the game. Part of the support damage aspect was the armor part, something you cant repair extremely easy with a med drop and improved kill chance for other life forms attacking.

Spores needed a buff. They buffed spores wayyyyyy too much, community's pissed at the decision, so they reduced them back to original damage.

What happened to all the between values? Spores need to do some more damage, but don't overdo it.

Spore should receive enough of a buff once Lerk 2.0 comes, as it will be trailing and lingering spores (more area coverage) and current projectile Spore as alt-attack.
