<div class="IPBDescription">For NS2HD Tutorials</div>Hi everyone,

A player called Carl Sagan just reminded me that I used to do alot of weapons/ability test videos back in the build 15X days. I want to start doing them again, and had an idea that might require some clever mapper help...

I'd love to be able to set my 'weapons test' videos in some sort of shooting range map, that has various rooms and spaces that allow for cool looking testing. For example, a 'rifle range' style section that allows a marine to fire at an alien target downrage, and a 'cage' section (think Starship Troopers 'Here's a tip, aim for the nerve stem' scene) that allows me to film a marine pumping lead into a caged alien.

Creative submissions welcome for interesting setups for aliens to test their abilities on 'caged' marines!

Does anyone think they've got the time/ability/will to create something like this for me to use on NS2HD? I haven't yet had a go at serious mapping in Spark and fear my Hammer skills died a long time ago...

How about everyone build one room and then have someone piece them together. Like a central hub with both team spawns in the center so you can go right into the rooms and get down to business.

I have a rifle range already in the works that i was going to use as a "easter egg" in one of my levels but decided to back burner it.

Anyone up for doing some textures for this?

Are there even entities that can be used as dummy players? I thought the only way you could create players would be to manually do it ingame by typing "give gorge/onos/marine", but even then they spawn midair. I don't even think they have that wooden doll included anymore.

I am assuming he will be using his bro for target practice. :)

    This. Unquestionably this.

I'm sure "targets" could be set up with a model and some Lua. Getting them into the map however, is slightly more complicated. I don't think the editor supports custom entities...

Thanks for taking an interest in this guys, I really appreciate it.

Targets aren't an issue, I will use volunteers and/or other PC's. As long as the 'cages' and 'rifle ranges' have entry points that aren't too obvious when I am trying to record the tutorials 'cinematically.'

The editor could benefit from "special" collision groups for things like this.

ie. PlayerCollidable and BulletCollidable (so one you can shoot but not walk through, and the other you can walk but not shoot through.

Regardless, if the cages are custom props, then two sides can be hollow, allowing players to walk through it, and the other opening will allow you to shoot through it without bullets being blocked by the "bars".

Or you could just place alien player starts inside them. :)

It still requires a hollow side to allow bullets unobstructed entrance.

isn't there a recently introduced collision brush for this already?

The only one we have available at this time blocks bullets/projectiles and players, while still allowing Skulk wallwalking. Also Isn't the rifle range map in there somewhere anymore? Could be used for some scenes.

*goes off to check* --> apparently t'be no longer among us, there's a test level and an example level with target dummies

    [edit]
Target dummy could be of use as well for some evil deeds.

One could build a cage with existing props in the cinematic editor and therefor would not have collisions. The "bar" models would work well for this and simple enough to lay out in the cinematic editor.

    @NSHD
Dis you have a Size in mind? Tutorial on hitboxes, weapon power, or defensive tactics? or....all of it.
Basically, will you need large enough rooms to side strafe with obstacles to leap off of?
Would love it if you could post a screen or two of what you had in mind.
