I've noticed them on other forums as well. Either bots are now so smart they can solve captchas(!!) or they've resorted to using real people for that part. EDIT: although I don't know if we use captchas during the registration process here
Actually captchas never have been a serious problem for spambots. In another forum I managed to get rid of them by simply adding a logic question to the registration process. Something like:
"What is 3+5 ?" "Please enter the middle number block of the following 123 456 789"
Spambot count went down from 10/week to ~3/year and registering users didn't had to decipher a cryptic captcha.

The best tool we have for tracking down the bot posts is when you guys use the "report this post" button. That sends the mod-bat-signal to alert us of criminal scum.
