GTX 460 SE Video Card - good enough for NS2?

Will I be able to play NS2 at full graphics with this card? Or should I go with the non SE edition:

i got a 460. The game is currently more dependent on the CPU than on the GPU. As long as the GPU has 1GB of memory, you won't have that many problems

i have the sc version. it's great and i love it! one thing that was important to me when i bought it is that it is a lifetime warranty as apposed to a 2 or 3 year warranty. the styel number on my card ends in AR. i recall at the time the TR versions didn't have lifetime. the warranty is only important to me now because i got screwed over by BFG graphics cards. i had a lifetime warranty and the card went out. i sent it in and they sent me back an older, but technically more powerful one. it died and i sent it in. they sent the same one back and it died again. i tried to contact them, but i got nowhere as they had actually filed for bankruptcy. extremely bad timing. i was out a graphics card and the money it took in shipping. i was pissed so i bought the 460 from EVGA, the strongest graphics company. i haven't regretted my decision.

I believe HS2HD recorded a video recently on a GTS 450. It's actually his Build 175 video. He makes a point towards the end and shows the card in his case.

He could record the gameplay in full 1080p HD at a nice framerate. Sounds like you're looking at a card a little better than that, so.... cheers :D

Any are great, the full 460 would be my personal choice if you have the funds, if you dont, the SE is still good.

NS2 is more dependant on the CPU anyways at the moment, so either an iX series from intel, or Athlon/Phenom Dual-Core above 2.4Ghz would be best.

I have the more expensive of the two options, and it runs on full detail pretty sweet! But like everyone is saying at this point it's more CPU intensive, and I'm running a Phenom unlocked and overclocked 4 cores 3.5ghz.

So it looks like after rebate 180 vs 130, but I think the rebate expires april 30th if I'm not wrong and that's today =D. Tiger direct has the SSC+ for 5 dollars cheaper than the newegg links and it may be free shipping since the order is over a certain price.

If you're not in a tight money situation I'd go for the nicer card, but you'll be fine with the se.

Any GTX 460 is more than sufficient to play NS2 in its current form at max graphics at 1920 x 1080. I say this with conviction because I record some of my NS2HD videos with a GTS 450. What matters right now much more than you GPU is your CPU!

If the game is indeed CPU-limited (and to stay that way for release), I'd recommend only upgrading your graphics card if you haven't already got one that supports your monitor's native resolution. Beyond that, there's no need to go over the top until/unless UWE release an update to say they are able to allocate time to optimising the game specifically to dial back on that CPU dependency.

Depending on how CPU-limited it is, you may get poor results with Dual Core even if you have a top-of-the-range graphics card.

If people are more interested in this some benchmarking could be performed by the community.

I'm using that exact card. It works fine. Just remember, NS2 is mostly CPU based.

Phenom 9750 and a 6950,cant get more than 30fps while standing still,in a corner,alone (averages around 19-20 while trying to play,going as low as 7)

Guess it's all thanks to the cpu then ^^'

Most likely in your case. I have the AMD HD6950 paired with an Intel i5 2500k and it ranges between 30-70 fps depending on gameplay.
