I think what kabab is getting at is that it would be nice if there was a slightly larger group of internal playtesters who can test the beta patches before shipping across steam for larger scale tests. This is similar to what was happening with some of the later patches in NS1. The logic behind this is simple: it only takes 1 full server of playtesting for under an hour to find major more obvious bugs before pushing it onto a much larger group for further feedback. If you don't do so the larger scale feedback you are getting probably won't be in regards to the new features but all about how the servers are now hitting 1.x tickrates.
In all honesty I run into a lot of the same players in game just about every day now. If some of these frequent players could aid in the internal tests, serious issues might be more likely to be discovered before shipping to the entire preorder playerbase. I have been thinking the same thing (more so your last paragraph). I see a lot of the same players everyday, i get the impression that it's considered difficult to organize a large internal playtesting game (atleast sometimes ?). I know i have a lot of free time(im on NS2 pretty much every day), have played a decent number of games professionally and at PUB levels (including NS1[in top level professional play/lots of PUB time], alien vs pred 2, tribes2/vengeance, a lot of half-life1 mods, C&C renegade[the FPS], L4D1,2.... list goes on....) Im sure there is a good number of people in the community with time on their hands and good gaming experience that would be up for more organized testing/gameplay. If there is a shortage of playtesters were definitely ready to help
I went by the name MaDMaN in NS1 I go by the name They. in NS2

Well in this context game refers to the part that is not the engine.
If I had another colour I could start recording level design tutorials that others could use, which would be a much bigger boost to helping people use the editor as the current video tutorials are rather basic.

The reason I stopped was that the performance of the 2nd empty server (well almost empty, I was in it) had low tick rates when the first server filled up. What would cause that? There are plenty of unused physical cores for the server to run on, and plenty of ram available, the only thing I can think of is the game loves cpu cache, or there is shared software that both server processes would use.

How much VRAM do you have? Last line in the log sounds most interesting.
This actually was not still a problem, rather it has re-appeared after the new luabind code has been implemented (b171 or 172 or sth).
In all honesty I run into a lot of the same players in game just about every day now. If some of these frequent players could aid in the internal tests, serious issues might be more likely to be discovered before shipping to the entire preorder playerbase. Although a little different of a scenario, the NS1 smallscale internal playtests did work out quite well and should maybe be reconsidered.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I have been thinking the same thing (more so your last paragraph). I see a lot of the same players everyday, i get the impression that it's considered difficult to organize a large internal playtesting game (atleast sometimes ?).
I know i have a lot of free time(im on NS2 pretty much every day), have played a decent number of games professionally and at PUB levels (including NS1[in top level professional play/lots of PUB time], alien vs pred 2, tribes2/vengeance, a lot of half-life1 mods, C&C renegade[the FPS], L4D1,2.... list goes on....)
Im sure there is a good number of people in the community with time on their hands and good gaming experience that would be up for more organized testing/gameplay.
If there is a shortage of playtesters were definitely ready to help
I went by the name MaDMaN in NS1
I go by the name They. in NS2

Crash frequency is at its highest through all patches that I've played.
Could we put some type of hydra build limit until we fix the problem?
nice to hear! and welcome! :)

Well in this context game refers to the part that is not the engine.
If I had another colour I could start recording level design tutorials that others could use, which would be a much bigger boost to helping people use the editor as the current video tutorials are rather basic.
Just to add to this, I used to do it (briefly) so yes it did work, but I stopped doing it well before 171 was released.
