You try doing the work I do!
(The following rant does not apply for newby gorges. The kind that build movement or sensory chambers first. The kind that drop their buildings then walk away, without using the "use" key to build them 2/3 faster. The kind that are always screaming to the skulks to camp with them and defend them. If you are one of these please don't take offense.)
I'm sick of these people not appreciating my work as a Gorge, sure my kills may only be 2-0, and I may be useless on the front line, but I did secure that second hive all by myself, defend it, get 3 more resource towers and defend them, build all the defense chambers you ask for and where you want them, build you some some movement chambers so you can get your new traits and teleport between hives, finish securing both our hives, then organize an attack on the third hive, and then defend that and get sensory chambers before getting another resource tower.
Why is the gorge never appreciated? Believe it or not this is one of the HARDEST jobs to do properly, making sure to keep the wishes of an entire team of whiny aliens in mind while also having to achieve my own set goals for expansion, HOPING that I might get to go Fade at least for a bit near the end of the game. I give you my professional services, and you do not appreciate me. I play a great game 4 games in a row, sacrificing 4 hours of my time do NOTHING BUT BUILD for YOU! Think of all the times you have been low on HP, running from bullets, and you jump behind MY WALL OF CHAMBERS! I indirectly save your @ss more times then can be counted.
I understand that 75% of the gorges that play have NO CLUE what they are doing, but the 25% that knwo what to do at all times are not treated as we should. I constantly get complaint of - "WHERE THE F*CK IS OUR THIRD HIVE?!" - after the aliens repeatedly deny me the help I need to take the thrid hive form the marines. If you are going to whine at the gorges for not having the third hive up yet, perhaps peek in there yourself and notice the dozens of turrets that are utterly impenitrable to me. I will organize an attack WHEN YOU CO-OPERATE, but how many of you honestly listen to the gorge?
The biggest pissoff I have about playing the role of Gorge is early game. When I tell you to keep the pressure on the Marines and keep them held back, and then you all go and camp the hive im working on saying your "defending it." If you Skulks do your job as attackers NO MARINE WILL EVER REACH ME. On certain maps I can understand your hesitance to attack, perhaps for lack of hiding spots or choke points, but still I don't need 4 of you hanging around me doing pretty much nothing. If I need help I will call for it, and when I do you better listen.
I will cheer your kills, I will get you resources, I will heal and defend you, and all I ask is the co-operation and respect that I as deserve as a Gorge.

The unappreciated badger
Loved by some, picked on by others.
Some even wonder why he bothers?
He shambles through the halls,
transforming juices into organic walls.
Offensive chambers here and defensive chambers there.
The pudgy badger tries the evil humans to snare
in a web of silky strands,
woven by the never resting glands.
Startled by the others whines,
he looks up and reads the lines:
"Where is our last hive?!?"
"We must have it to stay alive!"
Our little hero, keen to please his fellow teammate,
scuttles away, hoping he is not too late.
But, alas, as he feared he was right.
The pesky humans have taken the place with all their might.
With a determined growl for dearly needed help,
the brave gorge will show them he is no whelp.
Cunning webs blanket the floors,
before the men even realize what lurks outside their doors.
Spewing forth chambers at a furious pace
the marines safely monitored by a sensory's gaze.
And when the defences are complete,
every nook and cranny covered by his secrete,
the one-man-army begins his charge,
using chambers as his only targe.
The ferocious badger gives the marines no peace,
as he puts the O in the OC's.
Within minutes, the base is laid to waste,
and the hive is built with all haste.
The cute little bear, having infested all of the map,
decides it is time for a well deserved nap.
In a cocoon he will sleep and grow.
Soon everybody will before him bow.
The remaining humans tremble before the storm.
With a thunderous roar he takes his true form...
I think it's just because I'm probably in the best servers out there, and the people who know what they're doing, experienced everything and doesn't complain unless there is really a reason to complain.
I do see how sometimes Gorges are needed badly all over the place... I for one am the people who do ask for gorges when needed (only when needed) and I don't think I've been mean to a gorge unless he obviously doesn't know what he's doing and he doesn't read the manual (Believe this... "Manuals are for wimps" -quoted some guy)
I think it's just that the servers you play on are where new people go to, and stuff, so they don't know much about these...
but let it settle a bit, let people understand how the game really works by trying everything, then the complains s hould go down a bit, hopefully :o
Maybe its just my bad server selection, though I doubt this.... It happens to other players I know who like to play Gorge as well.
To the few people who will nto get it into your heads, and can't compliment a Gorge who helps you win, please say nothing at all.
Sorry if my first post didn't make sense, I was rather **obscenity** off and had to let off some steam.
deserves to play on analien team without gorges...
let's see them underestimate them then...

Just a side note here: Sensory chambers are damn useful if built first. Today it allowed us to achieve a win within 10 minutes of game start. I was able to chomp the CC to death on tanith, and when a marine came by I cloaked until he was undefended or left.
And dropping buildings and walking away is ok if you're building a LOT of them ;-)

I totally agree with umbralla here, though. Gorges don't get near the credit they deserve sometimes. I try to make sure to thank the gorges for every darn upgrage we get, because those upgrades save my butt SO many times... so many times I see other people on the team whining because we don't have three hives yet or something. I may be getting impatient too, but the thing is to recognize that the gorges are likely working as fast as they can doing what they're doing, and the hive will be built in due time. Until then, you just have to wait it out and keep the marines busy.
I know the feeling. I too play as gorge a lot and I am almost always beset with whiney little biatches on my team. "Do this, do that" "Bild this, bild that" "Wheres the hive?" "Why arent you bilding such and such?" I swear playing as gorge is almost as bad as playing as Commander for the Marines, with respect to your teammies demanding crapola.
Today I was playing a game and as the game started I sed that I was rushing to the Engine Room hive to set it up and get it going. Well what happened? I got 2 more gorges coming into the Engine Room hive with me while we still needed to get the other hive. <sigh> I not only set up the Engine Room but I also had to go set up the other hive because the dumazz other gorges on my team were so stupid that they couldnt figure out that I had Engine Room under control and that they should instead take care of the other hive. After I left the Engine Room and set up the other hive I left the game in disgust. I hate such stupidity.
I think if the team were to remove the Khaara scoreboard we would see a lot less comments like "What have done? Look at your score! yuo = teh suck!!111"
For example, say they mentioned something about how Gorge's must be quick about building and how it isn't as easy as it looks or some such, and I look into it a little more, and find out, "Wow, I better compliment that Gorge...Even though I killed twenty marines, it was that one Gorge that really won this moment in the map."
Might be a stupid idea sure, but hey, it's one for someone to think about eh?
Sounds like you did a good job as a Gorge btw. From all I've read, tis a hard business, waddeling down little places to sit there and spew out building...Juices? Poor Gorge's
Not so much that I am good, its more that I know when I need to run to cover. For exaqmple, when I'm heading to a resource vent and a marine jumps out at me with his pesky light machine gun, that is a time to just spit at him and strafe dodge while walking back to the nearest defenses. I will try to kill him form there. If however a marine with a shotgun or heavy machine gun jumps out at me, that is a full out dash back to my defenses. Not that I am a **obscenity**, but a dead gorge does no good for the team. Usually my kills come from Babblers. Late game when I am building offensive and defensive chambers near the enemy base - outside of siege cannon range hopefully - I will spew out babblers at any marines that come out. Occasionally a xenocide or bite kills them.

Building sensory chambers first is a hge risk. Unless you get up 3 very quickly, the cloaking is too useless for most marines to miss. If you dont have defense chambers, you have no place to heal early game, not to mention heal your defense. I have played with even a movement chamber first (I didn't build it of course) and won, but it is a much harder process and based partly on luck. If the marines realized how quickly lines of pure offensive towers fall to even light machine guns, the bulk of the defending work goes to the skulks.
Of course, if you are building multiple buildings at once, you drop them all down and then start "building" them.
No one usually listens when I try to suggest that we really can't afford that many gorges either.
No scoreboard for Khaara!!!
One would think that creatures with a hive would have more instinctual teamwork than those do not. Looks at insects....you will see more teamwork in a beehive* than you will ever find on a football field. So why the scoreboard?
*Yea yea bees have a queen but she dont do squat. She just poops out eggs/larvae constantly. She doesnt give orders, save for more food or whatever but she doesnt tell the bees where to go or what to do other than that. The bees themselves communicate with each other thru wing displays and body movements in regards to where they can find flowers and so on. The queen is actually a sort of slave to the rest of the hive.
Then, a newly re-spawned alien made a comment on how cool my stacked OC/DC arrangment was. He'd never seen chambers on top of each other before. It nearly brought a tear to my eye
Then I evolved into an Onos and killed everything
who the heck made up the name nancy for a map ?
But they sure should listen to you.
"Setting up defenses at 1st hive"
"All skulks harass the marine team and keep them from expanding"
"Setting up res tower and defenses at Location X"
"Setting up Hive 2 in a minute"
"What upgrade chamber do you want next guys?"
"We´ve now got full cloaking, upgrade sensory team!"
etc etc...you get the idea....
The team is much more willing to come to your assistance when they know you are doing a good job. After a while, it´s almost as if the humble Gorge becomes a "pseudo-commander", in a sense...and people like to provide cover for that loveable, obese little xenomorph...
my 2 cents,
/NB
Or when a gorge has stacked so many chambers in every single corridor that no Onos can stay alive more than half a minute without getting stuck somewhere...
So now everyone go eat all humans and thank that gorge!
So yeah, people, thank your gorges.
But, I get "thanks man, you're doing great", "we'd be screwed without ya" and "you're the best gorge i've ever seen" and other friendly comments. It really depends on if the people who you're playing with are oblivious to you or not, most of the people I play with are aware of my efforts, and they stick to what they know how to do(guerilla attacks, base assault, harassing marines), and things always turn out great. I rarely lose as an alien unless 90% of my team is stupid.
So the gorge may be an unappreciated role, but some people do understand how difficult and fruitless it is. I thank those people.
Gorges get less attention than Frontiersmen commanders, naturally, and therefore it is good that being a gorge is not as hard as being a commander. Building one thing at a time (mostly), is easier than placing turrets, buildings, weapons, co-ordinating attacks on an alien hives, securing resource points and beaming down health packs and ammo, all at the same time. But nevertheless, a gorge still needs to be listened to if a Kharaa team is to win.
