Gorges seem like a more balanced and fun class to play now rather than just being the most valuable one simply because he had the tech-choice. Belly slide, damage soak, infestation spreading, low-cost offensive chambers that senses nearby enemies and can be put anywhere and of course still useful as hell being the only healer. It's a great rebalance! If there's one class in NS2 I'm looking forward to play from what I know so far, it's the Gorge.

I thought the gorge was getting multiple buildings to drop, not just the one?
I would love to see #4 used as the Babbler concept. Not because it looks particularly terrifying, but because of it's legs. I love how they look like a cricket's legs, and the idea of a swarm of babblers HOPPING towards me is much more alien and creepy than just running at me.
Don't obscure players' sight. Don't hinder their ability at all really. This seems to be a trend with abilities looking at some other alien abilities in the game files. If I remember correctly you guys talked about this in a podcast a while back, any attack that hinders a player's abilities is just not fun to play against. Everyone likes to feel that they have complete control of their character, this is why jump is so popular in games. As long as that is maintained, a player feels like they could have done something better to not die in that situation, but when a player can't see, move, hear, or whatever, they just feel cheated and annoyed. It's bad game design to have these abilities and the fact that there seems to be many of them upcoming is concerning.

I like #7 the best. No because it looks cool, but because it's the only one that seems like it could actually do what the effects are supposed to be. It's tall and those little tentacles can go in an eye, blinding it.
Why would people feel cheated and annoyed by the crag's abilities? If you go near a crag you should be aware that it may launch babblers at you or release umbra. To avoid that then you should keep distance and kill the crag. How is that going to make people feel they don't have control of their character? If you put your hand in a fire do you feel cheated, like you have no control? Only people with severe learning difficulties are going to be frustrated and annoyed by these kind of consequences. <i> "when a player can't see, move, hear, or whatever, they just feel cheated and annoyed. It's bad game design to have these abilities and the fact that there seems to be many of them upcoming is concerning. "</i>
The devs did not say babblers will make players go blind or freeze them etc...you're kind of exaggerating.
I cant think of anything else in NS2 which is going to hinder players abilities besides the babblers and umbra, and these are minor hindrances. So when you wrote that there are "so many" of these things coming up what do you mean? Maybe I've forgotten something.

Yeah if it's a static structure it's not really annoying because it's an environmental hazard, you avoid stepping in it.

Awesome update! Haha i'm getting excited there's more creative gameplay added to the game... I liked 9 or 4, i know some people are going for the cute little critters, but after all they arn't created for their good looks!
aaawww I'd like to see some funny strips with those little fellows. hilarious, awesome studies, respect!
I would go for #4 because its the one not reminding me of some body that has already been in terra's nature / fiction (can swear I had to punch #2 in some game before and #9 looks so much like the walkers in star fox) <img src="http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n319/D3wurst/zombie.gif" border="0" class="linked-image" />
I prefer the 'un-armoured' look.. they look more volnerable and perhaps explode when they're killed.. (something like a baneling?) if they're gonna be crawling on marines then #3.. perfect for face latching and the big head would look so good. if they just crawl on the ground then #6
#1 looks speediest if lots of jumping and distracting movements was the go.
I never doubted for a second that this game wouldn't be phenomenal, and I'm really starting to see confirmation of this. The Crag sounds super OP, but awesome at the same time, and I use the term OP loosely given I know we haven't heard what the marines can do to counter these abilities and such.
Keep up the good work guys, oh and as far as the Babbler concepts go, I favour #8. Although, it wouldn't really work if these things are meant to be super speedy as he is a little pudgy.
1: many legs and tentacles remind me of the parasite thing from matrix 6 is a tick (disgusting), 4 is a grasshopper, 9 is something between a strider and big momma (hl1), 3 is in the movie "Evolution" 7 reminds me of <a href="http://oddworld.wikia.com/wiki/Slig" target="_blank">Sligs</a> from oddworld :) 8 looks like a <a href="http://www.google.de/imgres?imgurl=http://www.fantasycars.com/derek/cars/images/plymouth/prowler_1.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.fantasycars.com/derek/cars/prowler.html&usg=__TETLJgxh_WsiAutSWwBvvNuY0wg=&h=525&w=799&sz=71&hl=de&start=4&zoom=1&um=1&itbs=1&tbnid=uL08ben4Kw9HJM:&tbnh=94&tbnw=143&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dprowler%26um%3D1%26hl%3Dde%26tbs%3Disch:1" target="_blank">Plymouth Prowler</a> ...kind of 10 looks like an isopod which has been infected with <a href="http://www.google.de/images?hl=de&q=Leucochloridium%20paradoxum&um=1&ie=UTF-8&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi" target="_blank">Leucochloridium paradoxum</a>
i don't know.... they all look like generic monsters you see in movies and games. Probably it's because they're all arthropod-like. It's the same thing with the drifters. I also think they don't fit into the design of the other alien lifeforms. In NS1 the design was very consistent, all aliens looked like they were akin. The fade looked like a giant mutated skulk and the other aliens also had this similar skin and the symbiote thing that grew on their backs. Now we have those insect things and drifters which imo just don't fit in.
I would rather like to see the skulk babblers again. One good thing about them was that they were very confusing and as a skulk you could hide within the herd and kill the marines who were concentrating on the gorge while ignoring the "harmless" babblers.
The other "problem" with these designs is most of them look like workers, scavengers or parasites. Imo they should look more aggressive. Like soldiers. Small abdomen, big head, even bigger mandibles. (but then agian.. maybe they ARE workers because the real fighters are skulks, fades etc) But if i had to choose from the sketches, i'd say give #2 longer legs and take it. #4 looks aggressive too.
About the feed ability.... it could be an interesting feature (remember AvP2 or Warcraf3 :) ) but i don't think i would ever use it. To eat a corpse to regain health you would need a corpse to be there in the first place. Afer a fight maybe but if you have to run away or you just have been hit by sentries while crossing a room feed is pretty useless. I would prefer cara to this anytime i think.

I picture babblers in NS2 as kind of a glass cannon so to speak. Very weak but if you ignore them they can put out damage. I think number #9 portrays that very well.

Some look too fake, #9 looks real and CREEPY! Like damn, I would NOT want that crawling on me!

Looks quick, agile, and weak. I think that's perfect for babblers.

Looks the most fitting. Taking into consideration the other alien life-form appearances, and what these babblers do.
Do we get little garden gnomes running around...That would be so funny..
I'm sure many aliens would have pure simple pleasure in killing a garden gnome. hahahahahah
P.S yeah I know gnome of a mod of the mod and not made by unknown worlds.
Oh a serious note...
Can the marines get a nano bug bot that attacks the aliens?
Maybe 1 or 2 each and are retrieved from the armour station

And I still think that #2 looks like a bus :S
