Big vertexes glitch

<div class="IPBDescription">bug</div>Anyone else having this problem?
After the patch I was able to get past the black connecting screen, bug then on the RR the text on screen is unreadable, and after I join a team I see some streched vertexes (changing as I move) around the screen, then after like 5 seconds it crashes to desktop without a message

That happens only if I try to play in someones server
when I create it myself it runs fine appart from all alien structures, pistol and axe missing their textures (already checked the game cache)

Only two times it generated an error report before crashing to destkop, the debug said some textures failed to load because of lacking video memory, but I have enough

my specs:
Pentium E7200
4gb ram
Geforce 9800gtx+
WinXP 64

tried lower resolutions and windowed, didnt worked too

Are your Drivers up to date and have you posted this on the NS2 Get Satisfaction bug reporting page?

    <a href="http://getsatisfaction.com/unknownworlds" target="_blank">http://getsatisfaction.com/unknownworlds</a>

I think Max + co are slightly more likely to see it there.

This honestly looks like what happens after your video card gets shot in the head, literally. It looks like your video card is artifacting.. >.<

except he said it only happens in ns2 when he plays mp

Your description and screenshot remind me alot of what used to happen when my computer was overheating a year or two back. I mostly played games that weren't very graphics-heavy (like Quake2 and WoW), but as soon as I tried out newer games that demanded a bit more I started getting weird artifacts very similar to what's in your screenshot. Probably an idea to check it out atleast.

Whenever I've experienced this in the past, it was from overheating.

This happens to me every time on the tram map (ever since the engine test), which presumably takes the most video memory of all the maps. No other map causes it. Check the console -- for me, there's a ton of CreateTexture errors (it's a combination of models randomly missing textures and those same models having crazy poly faces coming at you).

There is an (old) CreateTexture issue on GetSatisfaction. I recently left my details there with a screenshot when I was pointed in a direction that happened to temporarily make the vertex issue go away.

Disclaimer: my system does have "memory issues" (except it's not memory...) -- memtest fails on it although it's remained stable enough that I don't have to replace the motherboard quite yet.

Found a fix, today I got the idea to reduce the video quality itself and not the resolution, got it to medium and it worked all ok :D

That card is dying. I'd honestly suggest that you look into getting a new one. Those kind of artefacts are only present your card is on it's last leg.

agreed, sound slike your video card when pushed to it's limit is nearly ready to die. I suspect the fan is on it's way out.

It *is* possible that this is not caused by a faulty video card, although it does look pretty much the same (I know, my GeForce 6800GT died like that): ArmA2 had an issue where it would try to load more than what was possible into video memory, resulting in corrupted models and missing or distorted textures - which looks just like that. It also would only happen on certain systems while it for others (with the same amount of memory).

You should run 3Dmark, Crysis or ArmA2 (which is now fixed), probably the most intense apps gfx-wise, and see if they act the same.

Pretty much had the same problem with a video-card. The fan was broken and it was overheating.

I wouldn't jump to any conclusions of a dead card but it does look like a heat issue / unstable card -

I think the first thing is download something like GPU-Z and put abit of load of the video card and see what happens with the temperatures, remember your graphics card does normally run hotter than a CPU so seeing temps between 80 to 100C aint unusual.

If you want to take it a step further download furmark gpu stress test and run that, just keep an eye on the temperatures because it puts your video card under alot of strain, if there is a heat / instability problem it will show up under under that.

Have you overlocked your card by the way, and if so im assuming you've ran no stress tests because this would of flagged up :)

    -

If you identify it as a heat issue, couple of things you can do one clean the inside of your PC dust could be in the HS/Fan! Then get riva tuner and turn up the fan speed see if that helps.

If its a stability issue caused at standard clocks then declock your card abit until you get another one, or if its still under warranty and down clocking the card does fix it, send it straight back, should get issued a new card and if your lucky you might get a better one :) :)
