Error with forums.

A long time ago I had to ditch my account because I changed to a wrong email address probably 3 years ago and could not activate my account. Well, just to see if it'd work, I changed my email address to my present account and it allowed the change. Now, it asked me to validate my account by either clicking on a link in the email or entering some numerical information via a separate link. I've tried both, but whenever I try to post or do any activity with my profile I get this error message:

"Sorry, you do not have permission to reply to that topic"

or

"You are not allowed to use this part of the board"

Why is this?

Old account name is Recoup.

    I've taken on the idea of using an account more true to my old name, but I really like the join date saying April 2004. :P Makes me feel old.
