(Should this be in Discussion or Off-Topic?)
Why are all the ops in #naturalselection hidden now? Ideally people shouldn't need to have guards nearby to behave, but in the end it does help.
I heard some had issues with being seen as the authority (something like that), but even so shouldn't that be an individual thing?
It looks kind of bad to have 200 people and no-one keeping the peace..

That's the point. :)
Like a sting operation, only not as cool because it's on IRC rather than in real life involving guns.
Can't think of a proper description.
What I want to get at is that preventing the behaviour is better than punishing it.
Unless you have perfect 24/7 op/mod/whatever coverage, there's a chance that someone will take the opportunity to mess around when they think there are no ops around, and then be on their best behaviour when the ops are around. Which is a pain for an op to catch since most places with have guidelines/policies about not taking action on something unless they've seen it themselves (i.e. a reg moaning about someone being a ###### isn't reason for a ban). But if they don't know the ops are there they'll be caught and banned, and the problem's gone. Of course for that to work, people need to think the ops aren't there, and this thread confirms they are, so I dunno.
Maybe it's just to make the channel seem more casual, or maybe NS2 is gearing up and the "we guard the channel we don't work on the game" ops don't want to be bombarded with PMs when new people come in.
However, one thing I've noticed is since that has happened.. a lot of warez searchers have invaded. Coincidence?

yes.
If a channel is going to support warez, the mods aren't going to care. If the channel doesn't, they just get banned from a channel they don't want to be in.
My assumption is some bot program has become popular in Italy, and thus the influx of "caio, !list, caio, /part"
