A sign this was never planned to be a game trailer : check the lmg ammo counter when the marine is entering the CC. That's some nasty glitch right there. But anyways , deliberately avoiding to shoot the skulk was a bit obvious :p

I'll patiently wait for new media to be released. At least we got to see quite a few new models with their animations.

Is it because Spark can be made to run on an X360 or is it because it will? shudder.

It's developed in DirectX. This means that it's definitively compatible with the XBOX. It's also why you see so many bad PC ports of XBOX games.

What sucks about PC ports of XBOX games is the fact that in the wild of PC-user-land, you have waaaay too many different drivers and pieces of hardware to deal with. People developing for the XBOX only have to test on one set of hardware for one set of drivers -- those of the XBOX. Thus, when they port to PC, they tend to be lazy and not fully test.

On the other hand, porting from the PC to the XBOX shouldn't be much of an issue. There's only one new set of hardware to thoroughly test, and the lion's share of the code is necessarily compatible (aside from obvious incompatibilies, like networking, etc).

That's probably due to the fps issue, which is very obvious. It seems the rendering is choking itself, but the sidestep jump looked pretty cool. Maybe Try it locally, it will probably be somewhat smoother then the web quicklime player. The aiming is quit silly, obvious bad acting *ahem* aiming :P

judging from the building size, I guess the "room size increase" is quite a bigger step up in size then I expected... I guess, back to the drawing Spark...

TBH, I saw AVP3 on the PS3 only a few months ago in 'beta' and it ran MUCH worse even with a full 100+ dev team behind it. Even in Alpha UWE have a 'playable' framerate on lower-than-average hardware. I look forward to playing the alpha!

Very cool. I'm really looking forward to hearing more stuff, WIP or not... Those eerie vocals really set it for me, and I had to go back and listen again through the narrator as best I could. You guys have really great sound work, something I could consider more important than graphics... It's probably near, if not at, the top of the reason list as to why I got so addicted to NS. All the creaking and groans, random mechanical tapping far in the space station. Top it off with some curiously-creepy music, and... oh boy I'm far too excited about experiencing it in NS2.

How do you know that was on lower-than-average hardware?

The models look fantastic, especially the Sentry Gun; I love the redesign. As others have mentioned, the biggest issue was the framerate, which sadly made the animations difficult to assess; going by the models, the animations are probably excellent, but I just couldn't make them out through that framerate. But that's what alphas are for, and I'm positively delighted that we finally have some in-game footage.

That was an extremely needed fix to still my nerdy urges. It's looking great! Everyone who criticizes, constructive or not, should remember that this is pre-alpha, and most, if not everything, is subject to change.
Things tend to change a lot in the early stages.

Other than that, congrats to UWE:)

I love those older SC images, its what i always show people who complain about Alphas/Betas.

Most people posting here just aren't very intelligent, and don't know a single thing about game design.

Edit: Also, i absolutely love how the skulks can actually strafe now.

i have no idea what you are trying to ask here.

First off, i see no sensory chamber in the video and certainly nothing that points to sensory chambers being armored.

Afaik there is no localized damage for the moment.

    Also, sensory turrets don't shoot.

    <--confuzzled.

/edit. Oh SENTRY turrets, i get it now.

Not much is known right now but looking at the turret i get the impression it would have a firing arc of about 90 degrees. I think those turrets would look quite funky if they had a 360 degree firing arc.

Congrats for the awards! and thanks for posting the video. Look like "it's about time" for an alpha release.

Also congrats to hotd0g for his/her sharp eye and attention to detail in the pre-alpha footage. Thanks to your efforts now we all know that this pre-alpha game is "far from finished"

I think Oni are supposed to be stronger from the front so I hope localized damage is indeed in the game and that the Onos is not the only unit to use it.

Turrets in NS2 are confirmed to have a limited cone of fire. I don't remember if any angles have been mentioned yet, but 90-120 is about what I would expect.

You are right about localized damage in that sense. What i meant was that nothing was confirmed for the chamber currently. I phrased it a bit wrongly however.

    EVERYTHING IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE

The animation will most definitely change; it feels extremely placeholder-y. The marine sprint might be removed altogether down the road should it prove unused/unwanted/whatever.

Actually no, it's not the player. Look at how smooth/fluid the sentry deploy animation is at the end of the video. The poor framerate is probably a result of whatever they recorded the ingame video with.
