Global Agenda

New MMOFPS
http://globalagendagame.com/
So, I've been playing some Global Agenda these past few days and have reached level 18 just now.
Basically it's a MMOFPS. You ran around, point your crosshair at things and shoot them. You have four classes.
Medic - Basic Healer with Dots and gizmos.
Assaut - Soldier with Minigun, Rocket Launcher, Shields etc.
Recon - Sniper/Stealther
Robotics - Engineer with tons of gizmos.
All of them play quite different. So far I got my Robotics to 18 and am enjoying it a lot.
PVE starts out slow. There is low, medium, high, maximum and double agent security missions.
In low and medium, you can just waltz through without having to think much. But high is a real challenge. You get 15-17 minutes to finish and trust me, it almost takes that time just to get to the boss, which then is also really though.
PVP is a blast. If you watch the video, you might think it's just melee mashing, but if you play it for a while, you can see where the different skills come in really handy.
I have to say, it is really good. I attached a video of some PVP. Now, trust me, watching it is not even close to the fun that playing is.

Now for the main course. The conquest mode. This is where the MMO in the MMOFPS comes in. Just watch the clip, they can explain it a lot better.

Best of all: No monthly fees. If you don't want to play conquest, you only pay for the game once. Now, I haven't tried conquest yet, as I don't have an agency yet, but I can tell you that PVP is really fun as is already. Getting conquest on top can't make it worse. :)

Unfortunately lack of employment coupled with record economy collapse makes you ration your money supply a bit better.

But afaik conquest gets reset every few months.
Why do people waste their time on this perspective. I love having one part of my screen permanently blocked by my character's ass, the entire bottom half stuck looking at the GROUND, and yet you don't actually get better FOV anyway.
Pass.
Yah, Redford likes the game a lot.
I was also in beta, but due to the fact that all of the testing times were when I was at work I didn't see much of it (and nothing of conquest). I personally couldn't get over the meh of combat, which I knew would ultimately keep me uninterested in the game despite conquest being what I have wanted in a game for a long time now (since BattleTech: Solaris).
Edit: Wait, what? Third person? Like, ENFORCED third person? It was bad enough that it was even an option in Planetside. You can't even switch to first-person in this game?
Extended peripheral field of view and position communication are crucial for melee-, cover-, projectile-, positioning- and movement-centric gameplay. This is why you don't see any first-person platformers (besides Mirror's Edge, which fails for the exact reason).

I think you can or could, but developers said no one did this because it was a distinct disadvantage.
Personally, I wouldn't switch into first with my robotics. Need to see the stuff happening around me, so my turrets don't die.
Just played the tutorial, seems fine..
I see the monthly fee is about 10$ which I guess is decent since last I heard the usual fees were around 15$.. again I never played any MMO, so I don't know.
They say that the conquest mode (which requires monthly fee) is free of play until march.
Anyone really played that game yet? Any constructive comments to give out? Thanks.
The only limiting factor of Third person view is the fact the player model keeps getting in the way, I'd rather have my FoV free of clutter, without having to maneuver the camera around the player model... Just imagine doing those fast Team Fortress (Fortress Forever) concussion jumps in third person view... The trailing camera will make it impossible to react to things around a corner...
You aren't climbing walls or jumping on enemies like Mario, so calling this a platformer is like calling all known FPS games with elevations (Duke3d or later :P) platformers...
NSOT, perhaps?
Uhh... well... actually that is exactly what you do. You have a jetpack and you are going to use it. :)
I can't really chime in on the 3rd vs 1st view thing, but it just makes a ton of sense to have it in 3rd for GA. At least for robotics. Dunno about other classes.
Also, yeah, I'm up for an agency. Nick is Panigg.
"Didn't use", not "Didn't need".
Meh. Maybe developers did leave the 1st/3rd perspective switch in somewhere, that way one could test it out.
Low-sec, not so useful since fights are over before you can build anything, and heal stations are obsoleted by a single medic.
Medium-sec however, where a single Minion Android can take down half your health... well, having turrets take the beating while a medcrate keeps everyone topped up can make or break a battle. Plus it seems almost everyone who plays as one is suitably cautious; it's much easier to get the challenge bonus when no-one charges ahead suicidally.
Excepting when Ballistae and Sentinels suddenly round a corner you were approaching and give you a faceful of instant death explosives.
If so, do want. I might pick it up in that case.

Unless they're unmanned...
Damnit :( got my hopes up too.
Specifically, there's a mode called Capture the Robot where you have to run a pretty powerful mech to the enemy's base. It has a huge amount of health and can really stomp on you, but using your own mech or shootings it hard (turrets help alot) can take it down. They're not that big, about 1.5x taller than the average character. Think along the lines of the exoskeleton mechs.
The AvA gameplay has even more vehicles supposedly. Stuff like long range bombardment to help take down shields, fast attack vehicles, and those mechs previously mentioned. What will be interesting is it costs materials and production facilities to make those things, making each AvA battle depend on your strategic holdings as well.
