Woah I seen some screenshots of that game but I had no clue it was that crazy. I gotta try this out.
That pneumatic prank is hilarious, but 99% sure it's faked. A blow like that could've literally torn the guy in half, but mostly (and not to be 'that guy'), you can see a frame tear right when they blast the cannon. Look at the bald guy next to the cannon itself, in the slowmo you can see he moves a few inches between frames.
Fake or not though, I still got a laugh out of it. Was *NOT* expecting it :)
I didn't like that. I read the comic quite a while ago and forgot what it was about. I was confused the entire way through this film. Obviously they don't have a Hollywood budget, but it felt way too cheap - scenes got reordered, the companion cube was... a painted cardboard box, and some stuff is just plain missing. The comic also played on his psychosis, and the artistic flair they gave before he takes the antipsychotics, there really was nothing of the sort. Some parts of this were too drawn out. Others crammed like 3 pages into a few seconds. I was expecting more effects that would make his state of psychosis more 'visceral'. Instead, his two states of mind only show up when the Cube stops talking to him for one line.
I don't think it translated very well at all. It's admirable for a fan production, but could've been much better.
The very last page of the comic is showing Chell's chart and her tenacity rating. That's the reader's little 'twist' at the end, what he saw in her files that made him risk everything and hope she would be the one. That was utterly cut from this film which - if you didn't read the comic - makes the ending incredibly dull, confusing, and something of a letdown.

We have a game that appears to borrow almost 95% of its gameplay directly copy-pastaed from GTA. The only thing that was remotely unique was a feature where you bring up a menu and press a button to do the thing that will complete the objective for you. "Hacking" means you bring out your iPhone and start your Hack app and everything near you magically shuts down. And there's a thing where when you look at people, annoying useless text flashes across the screen that will totally not be annoying after 30 seconds.
Plus, the guy dresses like a child molester.
On the plus side, it's set in Chicago, which is like the most neglected city in the world in terms of video games.
People seem to get more excited about what it <i>appears </i>you're doing over what you're actually doing.
