Sounds like a great idea. By default it could be setup so when you speak people around you hear what you are saying (so it is like your not actually using a mic., but talking normally/yelling at teammates). then when you hit the "mic" button it would use the all/Marine chat line. So you only need to chime in when it is important like "3 Onos inc to CC," and only need one mic button :D Otherwise it's setup as a normal talking thing. Only problem is that this would be dependant on people having auto microphones that open up when you talk, or they would need to use 2 mic buttons... that might be bad :(

i think the idea is great, but how to get it to work... in combat. hmmmm

There's a program called mumble that does positional audio with BF2 and some other titles like teamspeak with the added positional.

On most servers they use a single channel for both teams so the enemy can hear what you say, TG has one channel per team so teammates can hear you but not enemies (due to the opposing team's language barrier and the already silent to enemy BF2 VOIP).

I'd like to have the integrated voice in NS2 play audio cues to the enemy when used but not be understandable by the other team. Have marines just babble at a similar volume as their voice settings and aliens do the grunts and coos.
