    ... Epic...

It wasn't until the 3rd shot that I realised I was looking at ingame renders and not Cory's artwork.

The people involved in making those models have really nailed his artistic style, I think.

Looking good. My only criticism is that the marine's midsection looks very vulnerable ... I think the idea of having gaps in the armor plating there for the sake of leg mobility is fundementally cool ... but maybe the "groin plate" needs to widen and become a bit more triangle-shaped (more like the plates on the side). Currently it looks like a solitary hanging dong... kinda embarrassing to look at.

I did not have the same problem with the old concept though ... probably because there the plates were more connected and looked more like an armor skirt rather than 3 disconnected pieces:

    Looks great!

Only tiny complaint is the yellow light on his shoulder (IS it a light?), the fact that it's flat is very noticable. Maybe extrude it out a bit? Same with the lights on his shoulder straps. Other than that, it looks fantastic, nice work.

My first thought was not thinking this was an in-game render. I am thoroughly impressed.

Great work on the art and model. At first look yesterday, the helmet was kind of weird. On second look everything looks great and fits together perfectly. Weird, but definitely a good sign.

[Self EDIT too ranty, long, and pointless]

The whole frontiersman look very functional and realistic (as in logical). Although the name reminds a bit of the "Backseatsman" :P

*Chest/Visor lights can indicate health with color but it should not be visible to aliens how have the flashlight on (giving the alien flashlight a disadvantage).

*Maybe marine can manually shut down his own suit to increase his stealth at the cost of network uplink (radio communication, motion tracking, etc...). or not.

A guess: The chest light goes on whenever the marine is using voice com. Thus eliminating the ugly icons that hover over player models when talking. +1 for immersion? Although mouth movement would be best. I'm thinking the chest light will be used for an old function rather than a new one.

Seeing as there seems to be quite a lot of lights on the suit there should be a way to turn all the lights off perhaps at the expense of no HUD?

trying to ninja a hive with all these lights on you could be a bit hard. And I assume the yellow things are reflectors and not lights (like the blue ones).

While it will make things hard, it will make ninjas even more awesome.
At least there is no human surprise preying in the dark corners anymore.

I have been wathing these images for 10 minutes and found one problem. If those pockets on marines right are for ammo, it is really hard to reload a new clip. In todays army ammo clips are held near chest or on your left side. Left side becouse while reloading you have your right arm held against flank and finger on the trigger, while left hand is free to move and take new clip from the left side. Then fast clip change and you are ready to shoot.

Thanks, I spent way too long doing that... It's hard to change the colors like that and still make sure the lighting is the right color and stuff... The black marine armor looks just as good with a blue hud, but I thought a red one might be cooler for the spec-ops look.

I think those are reflectors.... Or just buckle point things. They're not lights, and they are supposed to be flat. (I think!)

Haha... Good point. Though all they would need to do to fix it is flip the belt around... right?

And I'm in the same boat as everyone else. Before getting into this thread and seeing Flayra's post, I thought those two renders were just concept art... And once I was told they were in-game renders, I thought he must be pulling our chain... and now that i've picked apart the pictures and noticed that the scratches and folds and everything are the same on all the models... i almost believe it. :)

sorry to ask the question if its been asked already a million times but will there be heavy armour in NS2?
  • schkorpioschkorpio I can mspaint Join Date: 2003-05-23 Member: 16635Members
all of those people saying that the armour needs to be a camo color, and that the light gives the marines away:

the aliens probably see the marines with an outline anyway like in l4d or with heat vision, or the old alien flash light mode

I always reffered to the alien flashlight thing as the 'flesh light' because it made fleshy things light up O_o

Something bugs me a little bit about the proportions of the marine models. Even though the concept art of the marine model looks fine to me.

It looks to me like (regarding to the actual 3d render of the three marines) the upper half of the marines body is a little bit too short for the length of his legs.

Now, it could just be because of the bulk of the chest armor compared to the legs, or it could even be that he is wearing his belt too high on this waist... I'm not sure, something just looks a little weird to me...

Other than that, its looking great. Props to whoever made the textures for the armor, it's really slick.

It looks good, the helmet design I don't mind so much as others. Over all design, just in my opinion is a bit generic but it does hold true to the original and is visually appealing.

I like the idea to go with a holographic HUD display and hope it's reflected in the first person view too with the option to access varied degrees of information as well as disable the HUD for zero distractions in intense combat situations.

Having a fully fledged HUD system that actually helps commander and marine interaction with various things such as video links and the target markers found in the last NS would be awesome.

I'm thinking of the Advanced Warrior games or the STARWARS one with the commandos which is a great example of having a HUD that also visually feels as if it's displayed in front of you with bent distortions at the sides and inertia factoring into the HUDs movement being slightly offset based on the players own head movements.

Look forward to see how it turns out,

    nice one.

Sorry to get your hopes up, but that's just is saying that the TSA headquarters are officially broadcasting the new marine armor design widespread, it was just leaked to that particular publication early.

I am guessing there is no video because the animation parts are not done yet? So I wonder, will the poses shown really occur in game? For instance the Marine on the left, is he firing his weapon? Also, for what I call the 'idle standing position', I have seen pics of the marine holding the LMG pointing up and in this sneak-peek the guy has his weapon pointing down at the ground. Do you think they will both occur in game?

Oh, and will the Alpha be released soon ?

Guns should be pointing up when the game is on hold (read: preround count down).
