All the fun of balls, in Source!
Why don't you take a look at Ballmen? It's a newly released Half-Life 2 mod that focuses on deathmatch, team deathmatch, and a weird little capture the stars sort of thing. You can walk on any wall in the game, and the weapons are kind of weird and stuff. There are flak balls that you can detonate in mid-air and an air gun that doesn't hurt anyone but propels you in the opposite direction and other stuff like that. I can't actually play right now since I have a stupid paper to write on Kant but once I finish that I'm going to be all over this thing. It looks like it's all the fun of fast paced deathmatch, plus enough innovation to keep things fresh.

Orange O.o
Wallwalking is..weird.
That said, I'm sure lots of people might find this a fun distraction. I don't know why but I think the FPS genre is slowly fading from my interests... oversaturation perhaps huh?
On one side I see a simple game made for simple fun, on the other I see HL2 Deathmatch with 'funny weapons' and wall walk.
Do you guys enjoy watching vids like that ballmen one out of curiosity? Even when I was really enjoying FPS games I found I couldn't stomach watching a vid of someone play for very long. As is I only got halfway with that and only lasted that long because I liked the chillout music =o
Anyhoo, don't let my meanderings and tangeants put anyone off. I've not played it but I'm sure it'll be fun for those who try it =3
Heh, I think Dystopia did that to me too at first. Or Empires, maybe. No wait, it was The Hidden. Or all 3. Something like that.
Crash bugs. Fun stuff!
I look forward to it! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

edit:
For anyone else, the solution to this error is in steam to go File->Settings->In Game and then turn off Steam Community in Game
If anyone is wondering how this works: it looks like the global gravity is still acting in the normal direction, but at a reduced rate (something like "sv_gravity 10", about 1/80th of the gravitational effect we have in NS). Then you have the players able to stand perpendicular to any wall (as if they were wearing magnetic boots), with the camera auto-rotating a la AvP. Players can boost themselves through the low-grav environment by jumping off any surface, or by firing the airgun.
Looks like a nice mod for DM enthusiasts.

Could also be that the world rotates around the player so gravity is always facing down, and the direction that is down is all that changes.
And then yes, there is less gravity so players float more through the air... but i'm not sure what you mean by the gravity "act[s] in the normal direction" ...

Definitely!
Looks interesting. Don't like the idea of having a gun that has 10 different attacking modes, but sure looks fun.

I prefer it to having 10 different guns with 1 attack mode, because then I have to track down all 10 of those guns and manage different ammo for all 10 of those guns.
What I like about having weapons with maximum of 2 attack modes (or 3 as it was in the case of shock rile in UT - genuine idea IMHO for which I will worship it for ever and ever), with which one don't spawns with, is that you have to adjust your style of play to what you are currently holding in your hands. Much more challenging I would say, though might irritate some people, I agree.
The more I read about the game the better it seems.... damn exams, ggrrr >.<
