The trailer has me convinced... that they're trying. They're trying hard. And at least we won't have to say "I'm NOT buying this until I've seen the demo."

I am always willing to give a game a chance (unless it is really damn obvious that they screwed the pooch). In this case it is all going to come down to if they can make it fun.
First half of the trailer, I was like <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" /> but then I was like <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/confused-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="???" border="0" alt="confused-fix.gif" /> then <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wow.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":0" border="0" alt="wow.gif" /> then <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" /> then <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

I really don't know. I really don't. I've played every BF game (except vietnam) to death. I'm a HUUUGE battlefield fan. But... this seems like too much of a departure... It really is trying to muscle in on the TF2 demographic, putting aside their somewhat similar art style.
I guess I'll try it out... provided the lag isn't too bad. My pipe is huge, but also long.

Because taking something that is good and adding stuff to it, is something that will be absolute craptastic!
I mean, common.. they are sitting on the wings... with the plane on its head... and the music.. oh the music! pure joy.
It looks like their aiming style is almost lock-on auto-aim. Maybe I saw something incorrectly but when they show him shoot that one guy in the trailer the aiming seems kind of strange. Im imagining this is going to end up being Battlefield: Mario-party. Aka: You don't need skill to win, or something like that.

Pfft! I'll download it on Bittorent if your fileserver is slow as hell, which it always is, EA, yeah...
Also it looks like they took BF stuntvideos and made a game out of it where you can do this without all the fuss of bouncy killed in the face with planewing. I remember driving a Mcwillis *<!--coloro:#696969--><span style="color:#696969"><!--/coloro-->ahem*<!--colorc--></span><!--/colorc--> flying it trough the sky... <!--coloro:#696969--><span style="color:#696969"><!--/coloro-->*disregard the huge B-17, hmmkay!*<!--colorc--></span><!--/colorc-->
And yes the aiming looks like the autoaim from DOOM1/2. Not sure if thats the case, but it did look like a step back to 1993. If not this could be a fun passtime for a few (1 or 3) hour sessions, just like TF2 is for me really. No strings attached gameplay with loads of blasting and blowing up stuff...
To be honest, I can't really make anything of the trailer and articles... I mean leveling up, only fighting peeps with same skill level, not getting pwnd in the face by a 12 year old (or was it 15 year old). So there are RPG elements in there? Are they going to run realms and have realm vs realm type of instances to be able to place ie: level 10 vs level 10 players or something, also........ 3rd person <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/confused-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="???" border="0" alt="confused-fix.gif" /> meh it could work I guess, but I do prefer FPS. I'm confused... I hope I can at least aim myself and run people over with a cartoon tank, oh wait...

Yeah. The mothers can walk by the screen to see what the kid's playing and It'll look fine because the art style looks like a kid's game, and they'll say "aww, so cute." and walk away. Plus it's free.

Is this some kind of product advertisement mini-game or something?<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->All players have to connect to the game via the main website. On that website there will be advertising. The amount of pay-per-view advertising revenue generated from ALL the players of the game getting <b>guaranteed</b> exposure to advertisements is phenomenal.
It's along the lines of how Valve do it with Steam, apart from there's no guarantee that it will be giving you games-related product news. Plus for Steam you don't have to open up the Steam News page in order to play a game.
With this you will have to open a page with ads to play the game (until/unless someone finds a workaround shortcut executable). On this website, EA could choose to run adverts for anything they want.
I also suspect they will run a progressive campaign of advertising to see what level they can take it to. To start with it will simply appear on the main game portal - the website. Next they may trial loading and/or front-end menus advertising, stepping it up to in-game menus later on. It's harder to imagine actual pure in-game billboard ads or product placement working for most brands, but I wouldn't completely rule it out.
This is definitely a risky venture for EA, so for them to go ahead with it there must be a very lucrative end goal in their sights. I suspect this game marks more of a prototyping exercise for in-game advertising than anything else. When you think about it, advertising has the potential to generate far more than the current single unit sale. EA are no doubt jealous of how the artist formerly known as Blizzard have been raking it in with WoW's monthly subscription fees. The problem is, they don't have a background in making the sort of long, fulfilling games that could justify a monthly fee. On the other hand, they do have a long track record with Battlefield.
The solution is to make a Battlefield-inspired, pay-to-play multiplayer game, only it won't be the players who pay, it will be the advertisers trying to get noticed by those players. Quite clever, but that sort of game will rely heavily on keeping the players interested. Once the numbers dwindle, expect the adverts to get more and more numerous and intrusive in order for them to balance the books.

it looks damn fun, and its FREE, but i'm always skeptical of things that are free - like how much spyware and data miners will appear on my pc or how much ingame adverts there will be.
