<div class="IPBDescription">anyone else o.O"</div>The loading times are way slower for me now with the new theme on the forum and the site as well. While all other sites I regurarly visit are <i>as should</i>. Also my www.speedtest.nl and individual downloads are at maximum speed.

Dunno, just thought I'd post it here. Did you guys rip some memory out of the site/forum server for compiling purpose?

Right now we're getting about 15x the number page loads that we normally have while everyone checks out the new site, so I think we need to let the dust settle a little bit before know if there are any performance issues we need to deal with. The new site is actually running on a different machine than the old site, but we believe it should run better than the old server.

More features/graphics and stuff probably make the new version a bit slower too. The huge background graphic likely could play a part too.

It's only 65.03 kB (66590 bytes) BigD, I doubt it would load any slower because of that all the time. I mean perhaps the first time it would load a little slower, but then it's cached. But i'm talking about ~5-10 seconds page loads the whole time (surfing and posting)

Also there aren't more users or members online then usual...

~200 guests, during old version/server it could run up to ~300-500 without significant slowdowns.
~30 members, which is quite normal as well

    Or are you guys running capping the bandwidth? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

[edit]Hmm, seems it's faster now... Ah well, on a side note. I miss the old look (it's been with us for such a long time), but also like the new look <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

Err, yeah not a large download for you alone. What I meant is that pic, while cached now has to be sent to every computer that connects here for the first time. That number of 200 people aren't the same 200 people all day either. Should get faster as all the new stuff propagates (like you're probably seeing.)

I recall reading somewhere that some popular websites have actually made sure the little 16x16 icon in the address bar was optimized with tangible bandwidth improvements.

    This is true, and it's called a "favicon". <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

Not more users, but way more page loads, which is what actually causes strain on the server. Also at around 2 AM PST the server does a backup which slows things down for a little while.

There definitely could be problems since everything is 100% new, but we'll see in a few days once things normalize.
