Weird things you eat?

Everyone thinks that my eating grilled cheese with jelly on it is weird. Anyone else have any weird things they particularly enjoy, but other people find strange?

    They are correct.

    My odd tastes?

umm, I like monte cristos... But those are common enough.

yah, most of my 'weird' tastes are not really strange, just uncommon.

I like tortilla chips with hummus, especially jalapeño hummus.

People think it's weird that I eat ramen noodles with chopsticks but I think it's way easier than a fork.

Mashed potato sandwich, heavy on the mayo and a dash of salt and pepper.

Sliced boiled or baked potatoes will suffice in a pinch.

    Cream cheese and jelly sandwiches.

    Bananas dipped in pizza sauce.

    Peanut butter and raisin sandwiches.

I think that's pretty much it.

Homemade chocolate balls, but their not in balls but in its raw mixed form still in the bowl. Seriously it's a pain to roll em all.

only 2 odd ones so far....

and I can see cottage cheese with A1, as cottage cheese with ANYTHING sweet is good.

I actually used to make mash potato samiches, except I would fry the mashed potatoes first.

my 'strange' things are actually not that strange:
Pasta salad w/ bacon, mustard powder, dried onions, peas, corn, carrots, Parmesan, rice vinegar (and lots of mayo).
    The Bacon makes it awesome.

    Fried Ramen:
Cook ramen as per normal (My normal includes /peas/corn/bok choy/what ever else I want).
Separate all the solid food out and fry in butter.
As you do that, thicken the broth w/ corn starch (do this by taking some corn starch, mixing with a bit of warm water, then add to the hot broth and continue cooking and stirring).

Once everything is at the consistency you like, put the solids in a bowl, pour the sauce (as you now have a cornstarch sauce) over it and eat.

If you have more time/patience/money you can fry up a bit of meat with the noodles.

Wasn't there a thing somewhere that listed weird food combinations which were "scientifically" proven to go together? In other words, they'd worked out which flavors went together, which flavors were in various foods and from that produced some quite gross sounding combinations which, supposedly, tasted pretty good.

The only one I can remember off the top of my head is caviar and white chocolate.

molecular gastronomy is the field you are looking at. And yus, caviar and white chocolate is one of those.

    pineapple on pizza is good

so are chocolate banana peanut butter shakes

I also swear that cheez-its + mountain dew = awesome beyond the sum of the two parts, but that's just generic nerd food anyway.

all in all, I don't eat much that's too strange - what's more strange is what I don't eat, which is pretty much everything. I'm a vegetarian but I barely eat vegetables. I'm all pizza, pasta, and dessert.

isn't fried ramen, like, defeating the purpose of instant ramen? sounds delicious though <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

    It is wonderful.

And it only sorta defeats the purpose of instant ramen. IT does not take much longer to make then ramen, and is considerably more interesting! It is also STILL cheap as all get out <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

Talk about cheap? I was introduced to Ramen in Korea in 1969, and it cost about 10 Won (3 cents). Scrambled up and egg, diced up some scallions... yummmmmm.
  • ThansalThansal The New Scum Join Date: 2002-08-22 Member: 1215Members, Constellation

And that counts as weird? Every major pizza chain offers pineapple. That's not weird. That's mainstream.

Most odd is probably heavily salted liquorice(ammonium chloride, not table salt. E.g. <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Swedish_salty_liquorice.jpg" target="_blank">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Swedish..._liquorice.jpg)</a>). That's nothing out of the ordinary in Scandinavia, outside Scandinavia it's more like "you eat solder flux?".

I eat Ramen without cooking the noodles. I crunch the noodles up and put the seasoning on top, so good.

    That's pretty much it

I put a mound of sugar in the middle of my pancakes and then cover the sugar mound with lemon juice and then roll the pancake, pick it up and eat it from one end to the other. Some people say lemon and sugar on pancakes is really strange and unheard of but I don't think it is. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

sounds like you'd be better off eating crepes - those are standard crepe toppings but strange pancake toppings :>

When I get pancakes at a diner, I usually order chocolate chip pancakes with fresh strawberries and whipped cream on top... it's like my favorite meal in the world.

I will now have sugar and lime juice (what I have at home) next time I make crepes!
