Variable Resistance: You are resistant to the last thing that killed you while you had the upgrade. More damage reduction than carapace, but only to one damage type (flames, acid/gas, spit/healspray, explosions, projectiles, or melee). The upgrade offers no benefit the first time you take it.
The protection against very common damage types like projectile would have to be less, since it costs the Fronteersman res to get different kinds, (aside from the knife).

If we do recieve damage type variables to further the "rock, paper, scissors" in the game, I would definitely like to see something like this.
Perhaps this could be a possible upgrade from a chamber, Kharaa Forming Chamber, spreads dynamic infestation:
- Carapace Adapt (Variable Resist idea above)
- Enviroment Adapt: Provide immunity to lack of atmosphere, underwater, lava ... thoughts? (Rough Idea)
- Senses Adapt: Provide info about enviroment, such as how far a weld has progressed or immunity to a flash bang or as some sort of enhancement to the sensory upgrades ... thoughts? (Rough Idea)
I'm just brain storming here, but as I said, I think the idea has merit.
