Oooooooooooooooookay

So I was hungry and wanted to make some Maruchan Instant Noodles.
I get it ready, toss it in the microwave for 3 minutes and I come on down in 5 minutes.

What am I greeted too?
-Smoke

Open up the microwave to see that the inside has turned a pee yellow and the noodles charred black..the styrofome (sp? i'm sure) is no longer in this dimension. WTH.

Pics to come!

800x600 is a bit too big to be forum friendly imo.

You're not supposed to microwave the cup I think.

On the instructions for the noodles it says you can microwave it and I've been doing it that way ever since w/o any problems.

    But if you don't add some kind of heat absorber...lke water..i guess...bewm. =x <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/siege.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="::siege::" border="0" alt="siege.gif" />

I'm still cleaning the yellow out of the microwave haha.

Pictures and videos to come after I clean up and make my 2nd round of noodles.

What a great bday! .. pft

OMG. 5 minutes later..the chunk of noodles are still smoking! LOL

Hmm, so styrofoam is actually microwavable? I always assumed that Bad ######™ would happen.

Reminds me of the time we almost burnt the university halls down.

Took my friends 3 attempts to make popcorn on poker night.....The first bag had to be thrown out the window as it was smoking and there were massive burn marks on the bag and popcorn. A funny colourd smoke engulfed the entire kitchen and lounge. Bag 2 done the same but not nearly as badly.

Seriously, if you can fail at making MICROWAVE POPCORN not just once, but TWICE IN A ROW, you should be forbidden from ever going near a kitchen appliance again. Ever.

Its a good think we sent my mates girfriend first, then him to do it. My attempt lead to popcorn, with the odd black bit. If I was bad at microwaving, id never see homecooking as I m in late and reheat.

Had a guy on our campus trip a fire alarm at 2:30 AM and evacuate the whole dorm, all because he thought he'd microwave a cookie from the caf with the wrapper on it. needless to say his microwave was confiscated for his inability to use it, and I will always remember my friend's panicked, then angry response as ran down and sat outside for 45 minutes in Mid January in his boxers, holding his guitar. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

I believe the egg would expand and crack the shell but I'm not sure. Worth trying perhaps <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />.

    Don't do it Paul, j/k. A whole egg in the shell will explode in a micorwave - I wouldn't wish the resulting mess on anyone. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink-fix.gif" />

No no no, you guys are doing it wrong. You have to place a silver spoon on the egg to dissipate the heat.

    pfft, once?
People at my college did NOT know how to cook at all. Burned popcorn was normal, the best was that people would regularly put water on for pasta and leave for long enough to boil off ALL the watter and burn the pot enough to set of the alarm. And it is always at 2 AM, and it seems to happen with greater frequency in winter with 2+ feet of snow on the ground. the awsome counter to this was the fact that most of the buildings still ran off of Steam heat via tunnles. If you knew there they were (generaly marked by a wide path where snow doesn't stick!) you could just sit there all nice and tosty. The worst was when I had a single, the smoke alarm IN my room was compleatly enabled, and that included the strobe light for deaf people. It went off the first night I was there, I tohught some one had farken droped a bomb on us <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

There are some suprising things you can do with microaves.
I THINK you can actualy nuke an egg in the shell so long as you drill hoels in the chell first (dont' take my word on this, as I dont' remember).

There are also ways you CAN nuke metal saftley (something to do with makign sure it doesn't arc)

If they have an aluminum foil lining in the lid you need to be careful, if it forms a loop you get fire very quickly.

I always pull the lid off and put a saucer on it, it's what the instructions on the cup say around here :/

Meh, I prefer the type you actually cook over the cupped ones anyway.

I have a special device made out of ceramic for cooking eggs in my microwave. They still tend to explode.

So the morale of the story is take the foil off the top of the noodles before microwaving?

Wrap an egg up in 6+ layers of kitchen tissue. Leave in microwave until you hear *pop*. Remove from tissure, spread on bread <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />
