Okay. No idea what brand this cable modem is. Think it's a Motorola. It's gray and sits horizontally. Not a surfboard.

For some reason, ever since I moved, the thing is CONSTANTLY resetting. I have NO idea how to stop it. Or evenw hat triggers it. I'll be sitting at a webpage then it'll go off. Or I'll be playing some games and BAM, gone.

Help please!

either your flux capacitor needs to be replaced or the modem isn't getting enough pixels. both problems are easily fixable.

take it in for servicing or post some useful information.

Upgrade firmware or hardware reset it. You dont have a router do you?

Do you have a router? If the modem is out of sync with the router this'll happen. Turn them both off for a while then reconnect everything.

Proper resetting sequence (according to Comcast):

power cycle the cable modem by unplugging for at least 15 seconds

reset the router (if applicable) according to the manual

restart the computer

If this doesn't help I'd upgrade the modem's firmware and drivers.

My router has this same issue, and It's slowly driving me insane. From what I've learned, most routers crash because their security logs fill up too quickly. This is supposedly caused by torrents and such when your computer has to accept many incoming connections. Yeah, this may or may not be true.

You say you moved. Are you sure the electrical outlet is good?

See, that's what I'm thinking too.

Also, I found out it's an Ambit modem. No idea how to upgrade the firmware for it. Any help?

Edit: Yeah, you know, I did turn on logging when I got here and it has been dying usually while using torrents and updaters that work like that. See if it fixes itself now.

Yeah, I know. That's what I've had for years.

Then Charter got a deal with Ambit or something apparently.

    Ahhhhhhhhh, so it's a rented modem? If so perhaps Charter could help. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/confused-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="???" border="0" alt="confused-fix.gif" />

Oh... guess I was being presumptious, eh?

Comcast is superior, at least where I live. I've had terrific support from them for several years now.
