Wow what've I sold, like 4 copies or something so far? This must be what leadership feels like. I have power! This seems like it's only a short jump away from starting a revolution. I just have to pick something to revolt against. Let's revolt against pants.

Easily one of the better books I have read lately. It is Stand alone but she is writting more in this world.
Story arc: What if all the fairy tales happen all the time in a single world. Now imagine what would happen to Cinderella if Prince Charming Was 3 years old at the time of the ball... Kinda derails things doesnt it? It's a neat storyline that is entertaining and easy to read. Although, its a fairly long book. Well worth the time to read. The link Above has the Amazon site w/reviews and whatnot. Give it a look. My Brother and I as well as my sister-in-law all give it 5 stars (and that is unheard of- but you wouldnt know that)

Yah, sure.
But the amount you make off of each refferal is miniscule. So Slashdot and prominent bloggers can make some $$ off of it, you and I would have a hard time gaming the system.
As for the book.
I forgot the name when I was in strand, found it in B&N (can't for the life of me remember how I found it). read the first chapter or so and I think it looks good.
I will pick it up next time I am in Strand (or doing a massive order through Amazon)
I hate literature and also I hate kittens. Therefore I'm going to spoil the end of the book:

Anyone who's genre limited to the degree that they ignore all fantasy regardless of its qualifications has problems. If I had just pretended it was sci-fi to get you to read it, you would no regret it. You'd probably read through the whole book wondering when the spaceships and aliens were going to show up.
Has anyone else read this? My brother just finished Harry Potter #7 a little while ago, so I gave him The Name of the Wind, and just like that he says it's better than Harry Potter. This is coming from a guy who stayed up late the day it came out to read the book and has read the rest of them at least 3 times each.

I read the book when you first posted this thread but forgot to comment on it.
I LOVED it btw.
I'm deciding between re-reading(I've only re-read a handful of books, and never one that I'd just finished reading) this or reading Harry Potter before my friend's wedding next week. I want to read the book again before I lend it out to someone at the wedding, but the person I'm lending it to has promised to talk about what happens in harry potter whether I finished reading it or not. Plus I'm still finishing The Unifying Force.
Rock and a Hard Place.
As for the book itself, after I finished reading it I went and looked up reviews online. Some of them seemed determined to find plot holes but I found the entire story believable (as a fantasy novel anyway) so I'm glad I waited until after to read the reviews. It is a great story, and the next book is due out 01/08 I believe (and 02/09 for the last part of the trilogy). Oh here's Patrick's Amazon Blog. I enjoy reading it as he seems a pretty normal guy(at least as far as geeks go).

His Amazon blog is actually just a badly formatted version of his actual blog over at http://nameofthewind.com. I'd be interested in seeing those reviews that poke plot holes; I haven't found any and I have fun reading about that kind of stuff. Patrick Rothfuss makes a really big deal about having a well-thought out, intricate world for his stories, and he doesn't seem like the kind to leave a bunch of plot holes (compared to, say, J.K Rowling or something).
coolies, I guess I'll check the book out once my finances aren't so tight :p
Sounds a lot like the Raymond E Feist Books though. Feist used to do RP nights with his friends and built up a massive world; skip forward a few years and he writes a book called 'Magician' to much acclaim. Now there's a massive string of books all based in the world they created and I can't recommend them enough. Good thing about Feist though is he's been writing for a while and so there's a massive story of books with a few sideliners written by friends (which are also good) so there's plenty to grub up on.
If I like Name of the Wind I might just leave the series for a while so I can greedily rip through a whole bunch when he's written loads later :D
At the moment though I've just started Robin Hobb's books and while not as epic as feist I like her writing style and some of the characters really grab me.
...
hey... whatever happened to that big thread where we recommended books to each other anyhoo? :/

*SPOILERS* This guy *SPOILERS* has the most critical review of the book I've read and I don't actually agree with some of the stuff he writes but he still has praise for the book and I personally didn't feel anything was amiss while I read reading it, the characters and motivations seem believable to me.
