Combat was fun to play back then, but all of this xmenu 20 levels crap made it lame.
Marines have the early advantage with range and focus fire. Then it extends to shotguns, perhaps hmgs. But once the fades roll around, the game shifts dramatically. Then you can't even kill anybody. The marines don't get any stronger, while the other aliens get helped because of the shared exp. Then with this 400 hp fade xmenu crap, marines just spawn to die.
Rarely, I get to play a normal 10 level co game. Other than that, it's the same marines upper hand into defeat that's happening in these large co modded servers. Boring.

I'd say there's a second turning point where the fades have gotten all of their useful upgrades and all of the marines have enough jps/with ua where one good rush kills the hive. It's pretty much inevitable with any game over 30 minutes even when the marines are over matched in terms of skill.

Marines can get exp if the server has a mod to give you exp for making an alien redeem. I only play on those servers for CO. Otherwise I only go alien on the other CO servers.
