    ME! I SUCK HARD! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

I can do early game skulking with silence and early lerk with spores, but thats about it. I blow at alien onos (i die within 30 seconds) and fade (i get max 2 - 3 kills). Sometimes I get 1 - 20 streaks per game, especially for marines (aim + shoot = hard). I'm a pretty good gorge and comm im ok.... nowhere near the best.

I've also been playing since the 1.x days (not sure exactly which one)

I kinda suck for all the years i've been playing. More like i'm average. But, if i ever get in the mood and play a several day long marathon of ns (dont have the time for that anymore <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" /> ), by the end i'm incredibly good.

I'm a bad fade (i can survive, but i get relatively few kills) and a bad onos (stomp a few times then run away) As a skulk, i usually end up with a bad ratio unless I play seriously. This is because i lack the patience to play smart and just bhop into hordes of rines.
I've recently become a pretty good lerk since it's easy to practice. It's cheap enough that people don't make fun of you when you die in incredibly stupid ways and you can lerk fairly early while still contributing structures/hives to the team.

I don't know if i'm a bad comm... I never touched the cc from 1.04 to 3.1 and only learned to comm recently. I occasionally comm a good game and then command incredibly stupidly the next. The only way i ever comm in the first place is when nobody else will comm. Then i get out of the cc occasionally to offer people the chair.

I'm also really horrible right after playing any other game other than ns. I basically have to relearn how to play.
  • Blue_MaryBlue_Mary Join Date: 2004-08-26 Member: 30921Members
I used to be decent in 2.0(Lerk was my favorite lifeform, I was good with it, and I loved the flight of it, regardless of how clunky it was) when I joined the NS bandwagon, and when it was 3.0b1(Or whatever the first 3.0b was), I was in my prime, especially as a Fade. 3.0b5 did <i>something</i> to my fade, and I literally lost all my skill with them. I had to relearn it.

And then as time went on, I began to get worse and worse. Keep in mind I don't use scripts, so playing as a skulk against pistol scripters sucks for me, and fighting skulks without a pistol script isn't very fun either for me(Chomp chomp dead).

And since now I really don't play anymore because I don't like the current state of NS, I'm sure my skill has declined to the point of where I can't compete with... "competitive" NS.

I'd High-Five you, but technology isn't to that point yet.

I'm not nearly as good as I should be after 4+ years (prolly cause I never did competitive). I can usually keep up with/beat a pro on alien but I don't hold a candle on rine or comm.

But you have to remember the great thing about NS is its not all about skill. An older player can lead their team to victory through strategy alone.

It's all about getting into an environment where change and improvement is easier. I bet there are alot of NS players out there who could get really good if they tried "competetive ns" for a while, but choose not to. Props to you guys for choosing what level to stay at and still having fun, that's what playing games is all about.

Oh please, enough with this competitive nonsense. Nobody wants to bother going to ircs and chatting to setup some scrims. And speaking of scrims, again, refresh your server list. Tell me where these amazing 6v6 games are. It's too much of a hassle and frankly, you guys don't even exist.

The only way to get better is to memorize the map, see the best routes and whatever. But when it all comes down to it, you either have reflexes to alien or the aim as the marine. If you don't have it then that's too bad.

Yes im in your boat haze... but the sad thing is there was a time where i was actually VERY good. i started playing in 2003 about a month before 2.0 came out. Honestly it didnt take me long to get the hang of ns. Soon enough, espeacially during the 2.0 days, if i evolved into a fade i could easily rack up a huge score. even with 3.0 i was fine and was generally a good player.

Now though... hmmm... well i can have some really good games here and there... but generally im just an average player now. I dont blame new versions, though the temptation to flame co is there, cause i think it comes down to time. Simply put i dont spend as much time playing ns anymore. Of course back in year 10 i was good at ns because i played it about 10 hours a week, probably more. Now things like a job, uni and more socialising oppurtunities have put ns right down the bottom of my priorities.

My point to you haze is that maybe you just dont play ns as much as you used to. Im willing to bet you had more time on your hands 5 years ago than you do now. Its not new versions of Ns ruining the game... i think its more a case of people simply becoming less dedicated to it. And like any activity in the world, less dedication and practice leads to a decline in skill.

until i read the words "NS SOURCE RELEASED" on the announcements page i cant see my interest in ns being reignited. Good luck with that devs.

And yet you persist in complaining about good players making a large impact on the game. Too bad the combined skill of the competitive players around outweighs that of all others put together.

I've been playing since 1.00 and I'm pretty horid as well

My lerk needs polishing, my fade needs a ton of work, and I need to practice bhopping alot. I can barely get the full speed boost.

At least I have seen myself get slightly better the last couple of months, but then again I did finally get a laser mouse and a mousepad, instead of a trackball and a desk.
  • SmoodCrooznSmoodCroozn Join Date: 2003-11-04 Member: 22310Members
You're confusing complaining with simple facts. Someone who is skilled will have more of an impact on a game than someone who is bad. This doesn't change whether I want it or not.

But from what I observe, if too many of the skilled players are on the same team, the game ends faster, without maturing to certain stages of the game. Then we have people that don't believe it is possible for a comeback, f4 pressers and the rage quitters. But if I liked this or not, would this change?

And what I observe from these forums is that many of the competitive players are pubescent brats. You whine in each thread, blindly assuming that the poster sucks at NS and then continue to try to annoy me with your "OMG WE TALK ABOUT YOU IN IRC" comments and of course, the lovely sigs. You downplay pub ns as some lower form of play, yet when you click refresh servers, that's all you see. If anything, I'd stay away from comp ns, because many of the people that are from there churn out as jerks.

Then there are the few players that pub and are very good. Yes, they do change the game in a way a comp ns player might do, but they have the eyes of the pubber and don't make foolish assumptions.

Again, you miss the point of my earlier post in that, WHY should we try comp NS? Why do you keep pointing at that when there are no servers for it, you have a severe lack of players and when it's pretty much dead? Look at the servers. Look at the forums. Look at CAL. Sure, maybe Europe ns is doing okay, but many of us are from other places.

We don't assume that everybody sucks at NS, and most of the time it doesn't even enter the discussion. You might or might not have noticed this yet, but you are singled out because, frankly, your posts are the dumbest things anybody has ever had the displeasure of reading on these forums. You make broad generalizations based on misconceptions, faulty logic, and fabricated statistics. People used to try to respond reasonably, only to be met with a stubborn refusal to address points made and baseless, ironic accusations that they don't know how to play the game and spend all their time in combat and/or siege maps. In other words, attempting to reason with you is a complete waste of time; it is no coincidence that a very large majority of good players view you as the village idiot.

The only pubber in North America that I can think of and would consider very good is TheGuy. The majority of good players seek out competitive play because they want to play with people on an equal level and not have to deal with a team too dumb to prevent parasited marines from walking into a hive unopposed.

    BAck on topic...

Since I lerked in 1.04 and consider lerking as gassing/umbraing the whole time I guess I suck at lerk bad. Can't live a fight with it.

Since the latest patch blink is to damned slow, so I guess I also suck at fade.

I always sucked at the onos. Blink 3 times and its dead.

also there are days when my aim as a marine also sucks.

How about started a thread of your own titled something like "Here's my Demo, tell me how to improve"

You could attached a demo of your best/worst game and people replying to it (people REALY wanting help and not just complaining or say you suck or what ever other brat out there) could tell you what is it that you are doing wrong or what needs to be improve.

THis kind of thread could be used by alot of people wanting to improve their skills.

Again, the success of this kind of thread is directly tied to the quality of answers it would get. Very often, morons reply stupidities making the thread loose all its interest. Maybe if forum moderators would monitor it and remove these stupid replies <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/confused-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="???" border="0" alt="confused-fix.gif" />? There is nothing more effective then receiving stupid remarks/replies to your thread to make you abandon this thread and to an extent, loose interest in NS itself. After all what's the point of asking help if you get stupid replies all the times ?

p.s. : I am not saying that every ones replying to any threads are morons, but it does happen often.

i have 0 natural skill in video games, but now im the first fade and primary commander for the defending euro champions- and only becuse i've played alongside the best.

//though some would argue only because the top players dropped out of ns//

flame bait ahoy, but competitive players just do things at a higher standard. if i fade in public, i can get away with madly slashing a room of marines. if im playing against a team like saunamen, i'll have wasted 50 res if my feet touch the floor for more than a couple seconds in combat

I've got my moments, but most of the time I have bad aim and I can't manage higher lifeforms. And I've been playing since day 1. The only reason I don't do half bad is because I actually know the game better than most, and quite often, that's enough for you to actually be helpful.
  • DC_DarklingDC_Darkling Join Date: 2003-07-10 Member: 18068Members, Constellation, Squad Five Blue, Squad Five Silver
I know at what I suck really no need to tell me by vid. Its the time needed to improve I lack. (no clean combat servers do not help as I am not gona waste 30 res on a lerk.)

and I ment REALLY blink IRL, not the ingame movement blink. If I am onos and dare to even close my eyes for like 1/th of a sec... I am probably dead by the 3rd blink.
