Like anybody thinks they are all the same. Perhaps maybe you, since you had to quote me.
Theres quite an array of different fish in this world. Thus the saying.

Dont get all hung up in a breakup, let it go, realize the truth and just live on. Time heals all wounds, and spend that time wisely.

It shouldn't take something really extreme to get over someone. As long as you still talk to the person all's well.

I've never actually been in a relationship, but I've gotten similar things that have happened.

    Heres what I've gone through:
I've had a girl as best friend, and being very good friends with her friends, while being in her class all the time and sitting next to her in class about 80 minutes daily. Then I've started to like her, and I thought she liked me back for quite awhile. Then when she figured out I liked her, she started to hate my guts. She made her friends turn on me, she never confronted me personally to say sorry or give any explanation, but never resisted to flame at me online with her friends backing her up.

If what happened to me counts, then the 4 best things you can do are:
    - Get your mind off of her, this is VERY important.
    - Avoid seeing her face/name etc. as much as possible.
    - Look for another crush, don't get into something serious or even a lose relationship. Having a small crush help a lot because it does get your mind off of the original person and "fills the gap" left behind by the original person.
    - Hang out with friends as much as possible.

How to keep your mind off of it:

#1: Relax and stop thinking about that ######.
    #2: Pursue your personal interests/hobbies.
#3: Get done any errands or stuff that you have been meaning to do.
#4: Socialize with good friends. Smoke a couple bowls and have a good time.

I had a HUGE breakup about a month ago (the weekend of my birthday, no less) with an on-off gf of about 3 years. Despite that and other things (that should have depressed me further), I took it better than any other breakup I've had. I did those four things mentioned above not because I was "trying to get over her" or anything like that, but because those 4 things make up my life, and I was simply continuing to live my life. Easy.

Listen to Everybody Hurts, The End, Alles aus Liebe, Help, Asthenia, So Beautiful, Goodbye to You (etc.)...

    ...at some other point <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" /> .

I've found (although I've had nothing I'd personally describe specifically as a girlfriend) the old addage "time heals all" seems to be fitting in such situations. Sometimes there's not much you can do (I've found that in periods of extreme sadness your thoughts will inevitably turn to the thing you're attempting to avoid thinking about. You could skydive all day (...or a less 'extreme' activity, like going to class), but when it's time to go to sleep or when you're taking a dump or something it's just bound to happen. If you're good at manipulating your own train of thought you might try to focus on the good or the fun (...at least, that works best when thinking of the deceased).

On some completely theoretical basis of intimate relationship breakups, you may try to associate the person less with happiness (remember that time you went to a bar and had fun all night...oh wait, your friends were there too, it wasn't just your girlfriend that made you happy (or something like that)). Avoid objects that remind you of whoever you're trying to avoid/forget (pictures, letters, presents, etc.); it's okay to retain these things if you can't stand to part with them, but put them far out of the way so that they do not become some strange aspect of your daily routine or a constant reminder.

Contrary to usual perks of humans, I found that one night of an abundance of alcohol did actually minimize my 'saddening memory' troubles. I'm weird in many ways, however, and don't recommend this avenue (especially since I generally have a high tolerance for alcohol, a low affinity for addiction to such substances and a group of friends to help in such situations (<- probably most important)).

I'm actually at the other end of the stick. There's a girl at work that is my age and hangs out with two other girls at the place. So they ask me questions like: sun or sunset, shoes or sandals and such, and I answer, but it's bothering me. By her appearance with piercings and black-dyed hair, I assume shes a punk, while I'm... a NS forum dood.

I don't want to go for it and fall, otherwise it'll leave a nasty memory whenever I see her. On the other hand, I can't talk to her comfortably like I can to my other female co-worker. She says I remind her of someone she's seeing...

I guess I'm bothered by some sort of relationship test these girls are doing to me. I just wish I could talk to them as a friend, rather than measured to some sort of scale. What can I do?

In other news, I'm sitting here in my apartment at 3AM playing guitar while my neighbors very audibly have sex. They've been at it for like half an hour, and he's pounding the ###### out of her.

I play NS, listen to music, play guitar. Anything that takes my attention away from my thoughts.
And I build walls in my mind to supress the feelings for the girl, and to supress the hurt.

Supression may not be healthy, but it seems to work okay for me to quickly let me focus on my school work.
I can actually deal with it at the summer when I don't have my future to worry about.

If you are still talking, the best thing you can do is to try to date someone else for a while. The beauty of this is if she really cares for you, she will make an extra effort to spend time with you or just to get your attention. If she doesn't then give the new woman a fair shot for a while. Its really a win win situation.

A little dumpster diving never hurt anyone.
