(Im not sure if there is an earlier topic about this)
I personally think that the marines could look a bit upgraded in the upcoming NS2. Right now in NS I think they look a bit too small and scared...Well atleast not too scary.
When playing as an alien the marines often look like a easy target, unless they have heavy armor.
Im not thinking that they should be made big and macho, but you know...Maybe add a bit more "tougher feel" to them? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" /> Opinions?

Skin choosing would be great. :>

we've had this topic before, also regarding female marines. The devs said that they will think about it but at the moment it's one of the things that hasn't the major priority. that's what I remember they said <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

@Skorpion
I'm a Starship Troopers fan myself but the Frontiersmen armor is far more advanced than this one <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink-fix.gif" /> So it wouldn't be smart to include that one. That armor doesn't even protect you from a skulk bite proper, not to forget that it doesn't have a visor.
If you want to differentiate between marines, all that is needed is a function that displays the player name above a marine at a button's press.
Personally, I'm not really against marine customization. I think the game would look better if the face wasn't customizable, but the armor shading, helmet (it should stay on to keep the faces hidden), and maybe sounds should differ along with skin colour and gender. Nobody should keep spawning with the same combination of skin colour/gender.
Perhaps the customization should be limited and somehow tied to experience/stats (<a href="http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?s=6785053147126917120&showtopic=99836" target="_blank">shameless promotion of my topic</a>). That way, the newer players can be distinguished from the more experienced ones.
level 0 - just soldiers in cloth uniform, with an eye piece on one eye
level 1 - cloth uniform, eye piece, gloves, armour vest
level 2 - cloth uniform, armour vest, shin and wrist guards, helmet (much like NS1)
level 3 - something 1/2 way between a tough looking swat team and bug exterminators
e.g.
