Yeah that warhammer sounds pretty nice and I've kept my eye on it. However <a href="http://www.fl-tw.com/Infinity/" target="_blank">Infinity: The Quest for Earth</a> sounds interesting. I dunno what it is about EVE, but I can't get myself to playing it longer then 30 minutes. Something about it drives me away, while the infinity combat demo has kept me playing longer and you can't even do much yet. Xept fly arround and shoot the bigger ships and die if you get to close <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

Isn't infinity made by only one guy?

In addition, I might hire other developers/artists on a contract basis to add content to the game.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

This engine they (he) are creating is going to generate galaxies on the fly and the entire game will be seamless from planet landings towards space flight. Have a look at their faq and forums for more info. One things I am worried about is that there aren't going to be alien civilisations and the game will be entirely made up by players playing the game. However due the extreme vastness of the game (final game that is) depending on playersbase to populating areas is kind of risky I think...

Well this entire project is kind of a risk, but the dev seems to like to work on it also due to his way of programming there isn't much funding going into creating individual props/models/animation/skins etc... Very interesting development indeed...

I've got a friend who's working on conan (he's a 3D modeller) and I must say what he's shown me looks impressive. I'm not really that blown away by the normal slashing combat in it (though I'm relieved it's a more action styled one rather than 300 abilities set to keys like usual) but I can see myself doing everything possible via mounted combat... the drive-by-slashing style and running people down with a lance just look a hell of a lot more fun :p

<b>edit:</b>To see normal slashy combat check this combat trailer:
    <a href="http://www.gametrailers.com/player.php?id=16169&type=mov&pl=game" target="_blank">quicktime linky</a>, <a href="http://www.gametrailers.com/player.php?id=16169&type=wmv&pl=game" target="_blank">media player linky</a>

sadly it doesn't show the horsey combat which looks exquisite but mercifully combat seems rather short against each opponent regardless of your fighting style instead of being the usual slugfest.

Hmm he has a shield but doesnt use it, also it seems the player is playing with the arrow keys instead of the mouse. And wth is that priest npc doing in the last part of the movie, is she hiding behind the players boot or something <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

combat vs enemies seems rather short indeed, perhaps he was cheating to be able to shoot the movie? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

I've actually been leveling 2 different priests for friends in my guild, because they don't have enough time to keep up in the grind to 70. I don't play them permenently, no, but I play them enough to know their fine.
    <!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
But you don't raid with one? Or PvP heal? Or solo grind/farm with one very often?

It's an issue of a broken game mechanic that Blizzard lifted from EverQuest and hasn't bothered to change.

WarHammer Online, however, <a href="http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/warhammer-online/759615p1.html" target="_blank">appears</a> to finally have nailed down a fun way to heal.

I still don't know what you dislike about priesthood -_- no, I don't play a priest, but I live with one, and speak with many. I named a million toys priests use to heal a few posts ago, that should be enough to keep it interesting. My guild's priest leader says he could never bear to play a non-healing class, he considers everything but priest to be too boring... a mage or warlock or rogue just has to spam one or two dps spells/skills for an entire instance. A priest has to have perfect timing, mana management, threat management, and spell selection or the raid wipes. In most cases, DPS can't wipe the raid like a healer can. Healing is hard mode. priests can even do some <a href="http://www.worldofming.com/?author=5" target="_blank">nice dps</a> now, though they suffer from running out of mana more easily than mages/locks.

anyway, I guess I should drop the subject, since you're entirely allowed to hate priests if you want to =p

Want to grind? Spirit tap and get a nice(50+ dps) wand. I strung mobs together with 0 downtime (Seriously, absolutely none) from 59-60. Just open up with vamp touch, then vamp embrace, then sw:P, and MB. Then just finish it with a wand. Spirit tap at the end and you get more then your mana back. Fight lasts maybe 8-9 seconds. These are all high level mobs as well, 59-60.

Priests have the same deal as every other group. If you want to PvP, go shadow (or disc+shadow if you want healing skillz). If you want to raid, go disc/holy (unless your guild is cool and lets you shadow DPS).

Very few classes (Warlocks and hunters come to mind) can PvP and Raid with the same talent spec.

I've done raid healing with one, in both BWL and MC. I don't PvP often, but in the new world PvP, I'll give them a good run at Halaa so I don't burn myself out leveling(which happens with ANY class). And as for solo grind/farming, the class is one of the most ideal ones for doing it. I think you're angry at Blizzard for a mechanic you don't like because...you, at your heart, just don't enjoy healing all that much.

Actually, on my server priests are pretty common. There are at least as many Priests here as there are Rogues, at least Hordeside.

...and frankly, if anyone runs from any class in the battlegrounds, you're dealing with an idiot in the first place, unless its a part of strategy. Actively running away from a certain class is just stupid.

...and if people were running away from them a lot, wouldn't that imply them being overpowered?

the best part about the Warhammer MMORPG is that the SETTING is just leaps and bounds better, more brutal, nastier, with MORE chaos, MORE holy goodness, and after considering that, i don't think i'll ever take a second glance back at WoW, with its non-existant storyline and painfully non-immersive gameplay.
  • GeminosityGeminosity :3 Join Date: 2003-09-08 Member: 20667Members
awww... the horsey conan vid wasn't very good =p

The one I watched which was a sorta in-house one had him riding the horse a full pelt cutting down active enemies. It also had them using a lance which is even more fun looking than the sword XD

Still, better than no vid at all =3

As for Warhammer, I'm sorry but I'm still hyped to heck about it. Every time I play WoW now I keep thinking "jees, I wish warhammer was out" =o

Concerning the priest arguement... more ways of doing the same thing don't really necessitate fun. I like help people and I get some sort of weird pleasure out of rezzing others but the priest doesn't really capture my imagination in WoW. I hate having 30 different ways to heal someone... 1 is more than enough for me. Heck I hate having 20 million buffs too... just give me one and I'll be happy as long as it's a decent one.
You will never win a fight by just healing... someone has to do damage somewhere or nobody dies and as such soloing with priest is a chore. Sure they have attacks but their mana pool is a major limiter and I <b>hate</b> having to 'rest', keep buying water or whatever in a game where many of the classes have no such limitations. It's not so bad when EVERYONE has to, but when it's just certain classes it's just silly.

As a warlock I didn't even care about mana; I just lifetapped to oblivion! My health was my mana bar and there's lots of fast, free ways of regenning it on the run or during battle, especially as a warlock.
Rogue and Warrior don't even use mana so it's not a worry for them either.
My paladin practically lives on Blessing of wisdom so running out mana is a very brief affair and even when it's gone for the short time it can be, I'm not completely useless thanks to the magic of pointy swords.
For Druid you just switch forms when you're low to regen mana while you use rage or energy to make yourself useful.
On shaman I can still pummel people without mana and there's lots of neat talents and tricks to regen it with easily without resorting to drinking... not to mention your mana pool isn't that big compared to most casters so it doesn't take long to fill XD
Mage? Well... at least they can summon their own water for free but yeah, stopping to drink with these annoyed me as well =P

I really wish games would drop the whole mana crud. I'm sure there's more entertaining ways of doing things like rogue energy (which regens super quick between fights and is a fixed amount from level 1 to 70... never going up), warrior rage or even just mechanics that use things like casting time and cooldowns as the limitation (Rakion works much that way but it's a more actiony game in general and not really an MMO :3 ).
I know many of them are just 'mana' with a different name but look at how they're treated and it's a lot more fun than having to take a break every couple of minutes to drink or rest... at least with health it's something that makes you die when it runs out; mana just means you can't do ######.

Also... I have no idea why but using wands really gets on my nerves. I suspect in many ways it's due to the fact that EVERY SINGLE SHOT triggers global cooldown and that I have to stand constantly still to do it. Dear heck, my UI becomes an epileptic's nightmare with a wand as every single ability greys out and rotates it's lil cooldown graphic time and time again =s

I run away from everyone in the battlegrounds... after I stack 6k damage worth of dots on them anyway.

I still like the WoW but I'm up for a change of scenery if Warhammer or Conan turn out as cool as they have potential to.

If Warhammer can be truly a better game than WoW I'll go, but to me it looks like its just trying to perfect WoW's points...which to me, are near perfect as it is. But hey, if it feels better, I'd love to try something a tad more adult.

...but then Conan would completely take me over, too(as it makes Warhammer look like it really was for kids).

warhammer is about as adult as it gets. it's like, a gorefest. even all the flavor text and fiction around the tabletop game implies that killing is just about the only thing that goes on in the warhammer universe. i'm not sure how that plays into the MMORPG, but whatever.

Well, I'm pretty sure Conan slightly edges it out, if only because of the more lifelike graphics, instead of the slightly-cartoony Orcs(specifically. I actually think the Dwarves look brilliant).

One thing I really thought was neat though about Warhammer, was the way your character evolved. High level dwarves grew huge beards, high level Orcs and Trolls are 3 to 4 times the size of smaller ones, you can see characters get more 'built' as time goes on- it sounds awesome. I may give it a hard time, but it really does look nice.

Think about quests: Dwarfs just lost of load of ale to some orcs. Go get the ale back. At the same time, an Orc player will get a quest to deliver said ale to a Warchief. Nothing like that in WoW.

I've read things like that in the previews quite a bit, but with a lot of the Outland content, you get things pretty similar to that- maybe not as involved, but the same feel. If its really obviously done better at it, I'll sign over easily. And I'm still eager as hell to get into beta, if I ever do. Just wondering if they'll really pull it off.

BTW: I never once claimed warcraft came before Warhammer, or anything of the such, nor have I seen anyone claim it here. I'd like to think were all more intelligent than that. Were talking MMOs, is all.
