Dystopia is awesome to the max. Anyone who hasn't tried it yet, wait until v1.

    I wish I could have supported earlier but I have had dollar problems. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" />

Hopefully within the next two weeks. Less if we get enough people to get the testing done.

So you're related to the Colonel or something?

Yeah, I tried Dystopia a couple of times, and both of these have proven horribly laggy to me, especially when going in that psychedelic rotating color world.

Hopefully, a few of the more annoying "features" will have been squished. Like decker difficulty, and a few others I can't remember properly (I haven't played anything Steam based for nearly a year, so forgive me <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />)

    Looking forward to it though

I really didn't like Dystopia. All the weapons were boring and the map had some awful chokepoints. It felt like Starsiege: Tribes without the open maps, the vehicles, the jetpacks, and the teamwork. Plus they took out the disc launcher and plasma gun and replaced them with a shotgun and an assault rifle and a submachine gun.

For once I agree with Tycho.

On another note, by the end of 2007 Dystopia will probably not be free.

    I guess I'll give it a whirl.
On a side note, why didn't you link the main page directly?

See, what I find funny, is that people just scratch off any later version, because they played the first version. How does that pan out? We've done a complete year of changes, mostly to the gameplay, and people are still willing to just write it off?

    Three complaints:

    1. The ion weapon model was changed to look extremely similar to the rocket launcher, or maybe it's the basalisk that looks like the rocket launcher now? Either way I want the old ion weapon model back, it LOOKED good! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" />

    2. I hope you guys fixed the EMP bug where if you die when you've been EMP'd the EMP noise sticks with you until you respawn. Irritating!

    3. I can't remember what I was going to say, so here's a bunny with a pancake on i.... oh nevermind, I can't find the picture.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE Dystopia! (but I hate the Stronghold map... stupid map)

    So take my er.. complaints as constructive criticism! yay! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

I really liked the Dystopia demo for the short time I played it. I'll definately check it out when it's released.

I LOVE Dystopia. I think I'll go play it now.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to these new versions. Although I wish there were more computer-ee things to do in Cyberspace. Like, missions where you have to break into a server, pick up a file, and fly it back to your server or something.

But this isn't really the place for that. Still, I'm very excited about this, and I hope the new maps are as good as the current ones.

Although I have to say, I don't like Silo.

Because the first version was feature complete, except for the vehicles and the number of maps? Honestly if I didn't like Natural Selection when I played it during 1.04 I don't think I'd like it today, and that's considering all the vast changes that have happened. From what I've read on Dystopia, the big differences are mostly just maps.

The initial release was funish. I got sick of the severely repetitive gameplay. There was little or no variation from one game to the next.

Considering NS, if you did hate it that much the rumours of combat being like CS you might have ended up re-playing. I think dystopia needs something shy of a new game mode to get me interested again.

Dystopia is good for playing frantically for a few days and then getting bored for a few weeks. I was disappointed when the servers went down after I took a few-week hiatus, and they never seemed to come back up with any large number of players. Plus playing the same map over and over again with predictable battles got boring.

Okay, true, I might have tried NS when I heard about combat being very different. I guess I'll try Dystopia if they add something more than team deathmatch, because all the objectives right now are basically "open a door by shooting all the bad guys in the area and hitting use" or something.

Dystopia left a really bad taste in my mouth. I just felt bored beyond belief playing it and it really felt like a bad knock off of Tribes. I'll give the new version a shot but I'm not expecting anything fascinating.

like some of the others here I'll definitely give it a shot but I was unimpressed by the original.

Combat in the original felt clumsy and boring and I didn't like a single one of the weapons. Cyberspace was worse. I like to give constructive critisism but it's been so long since I played I can't remember what my exact gripes were to be honest but I'll be sure to give praise/suggestions after I play the newer version in the hopes of being helpful :3

I kinda liked cyberspace, although it could be an exercise in frustration when you were a lone guy against two good hackers and nobody from your team would help and an opposing team member kept sneaking past your entire team and jammering or killing you.

I like the minigun and the rocket launcher (hooray I win button!), but the other weapons just don't appeal to me really. I had some fun out of playing medic (earns you a lot of goodwill). I'll probably give it another chance. I hope they've finally fixed silo and fortress.

I liked Dystopia, it had a good American cyberpunk-feel to it. Cyberspace was the best part for me, though. Wish our intratubes was like that.

    Neotokyo is better though >.>

I think, UC, the general consensus on Dystopia is a uncertain trial really. Most people have their gripes with the beta (which is very reasonable, because it's not a finished product), and are willing to give it another shot, even if it's only for a week or so. Given that it's on Digg, the download servers are going to get rammed for a day or two, but after that, people will end up formulating their own ideas about it...

Hopefully it'll be fine, but, well, here's hoping ^^
  • eedioteediot Join Date: 2003-02-24 Member: 13903Members
Actually, LT Patch, from what I've seen, it's about half "The game was great and I'd love to play an updated version!" and half "I'm not sure, I'll see how it goes."
