Re: The Epic Trello Thread
Interesting take on the game, but I disagree strongly with taking the Freedom mode out of the game.
Having MORE options is ALWAYS better than having LESS.

Reclaiming abandoned bases?
After visiting the abandoned bases in the Grand Reef and Mushroom cave it occurred to me that it would be rather neat (and perhaps a worthwhile story element?) to allow players to repair and rebuild the abandoned underwater bases for themselves?
Being able to repair and restore the remains of the Degasi bases would make for an interesting challenge (especially the base in the Grand Reefs) and give newer players a bit of a jump start on base construction and provide useful staging grounds for exploration in the surrounding biome/s without needing to invest the heavy resources otherwise necessary to build another new base in that location.

Re: To The Devs
In my mind (and I might be over-praising them) they are what an indie dev team should be. They genuinely care about the wishes of their community, are proactive in communicating with them and make great games. There hasn't been a single decision they've made which I didn't either love or (if I didn't love it) understand the reasons behind it.
My favorite thing the they ever did was the DLC in Natural Selection 2, they gave it away for free and asked people to contribute how much they thought it was worth (those who contributed got free skins, if I remember correctly). If they made their money back, they would make new DLC in the same way.
I think that their strength is that they make relatively niche games (well 1 game, one in alpha
), so they don't have to try to please too many people.
In a world of scummy business practices in indie games I hope that many other indie devs will be able to implement some of the ideas of UWE.

To The Devs
Dear Developers of Unknown Worlds,
You guys are so amazing! You have made a superb game and have built a great community around it! You have exceeded many expectations (mine included) and the whole community wishes you the best of luck on future projects. I may have only played SN but I have seen footage of your other games and they look as great as this one. The whole community wishes you the best of luck,
The UW Community!

Re: Fan Creation thread
Here you go. I originally thought of it as a venus flytrap-like organism but I'd completely forgotten that the spike trap serves a similar purpose.
I'm terrible at textures so haven't got around to doing it.

Temporary fix for recent crashes [build 40062]
I've experienced the mentioned recent crashes and stutter since the latest update as well, even with a fresh new game, latest drivers, 16 GB RAM, i7, GTX970 etc etc.
It seems to me, the persistent state of the world get glitched over time and what helped me so far, is to clear the world state.
It resets the flora, fauna, resources and so on, however you keep all your items, base, ships.
To do so, backup your savegame folder and then delete "CellsCache" and "CompiledOctreesCache" folders in your savegame slot folder.
It entirley removes the stutter and crashes from my game until the world state get corrupted or whatever.
Hope the current crashes are just a minor issue for the devs and get fixed quickly.

Re: Coop or multiplayer in Subnautica? I'm afraid not.
Can anyone that is complaining about "Buying the game solely for multiplayer" please provide an actual link to or screencap of what ever made them think this game would feature multiplayer?
What I don't get is the attitude of "Oh, why bother building a base if no one else can see it?"
Dude, YOU'RE the one that gets to see it. When the hell did games become only about trying to impress other people with your dong shaped submersible?
Also, Steam Screenshots are a thing.
I even made a thread for that exact purpose. Its one of the stickied ones.

Re: 'BOREALIS RISING' - A Subnautica Story V2.0.
@sayerulz As long as there's no actual malice intended, I'm completely down with the odd snarky comment.
Nothing wrong with a little constructive criticism, although I am dead against needless nit-picking purely for its own sake.
Fair warning... Some astute readers may have noticed that I am indeed somewhat technically inclined.

Wherever possible, I prefer to use real-world science to support plot points in these stories. Expect a little help from The Wonder Material Of The Future: 'Handwavium' occasionally, but only because some advanced concepts sound particularly cool and I'd like to incorporate them into the story.
Basically, all I ask is that you enjoy what I've written. If you don't, fine. Just don't dump on me to inflate your own feelings of self worth. Common courtesy is extended to all my readers, and I rightfully expect the same in return.
After all, it's my time and effort that I'm burning for free here. Please bear that in mind before playing the Troll Card.

Re: 'BOREALIS RISING' - A Subnautica Story V2.0.
Looks like some folks are getting lost in the fog here.
Some points to consider:
It's a virus. It's alien. It still functions in cryostasis. Nothing was ever said about it making progress in frozen human cells.
Also, these stories take place on an alternate timeline. All due care and attention has been taken regarding scientific plausibility, within reasonable (and somewhat flexible) factual boundaries. It is a work of science fiction, after all.
Most importantly: It's my story. I get to make the rules.
