It should be optional

This happened to me too when Hugh asked for volunteers to get screenshots of the new stuff. Turns out NS2 had not properly updated. Restarting Steam fixed the problem for me.
And of course, don't forget to disable all mods. It's amazing how they manage to break things in the most ridiculous ways.
Re: Medspam and jumping ever going to be changed?
Visually, I actually agree that jump height should be less.
Go ahead and test it, a marine jumping next to another can jump high enough that his feet reaches the height of the marine's head..
I'm not playing the 'Needs to be combat sim realistic!' .. It just looks ugly Imo, almost glitchy.
Balance wise a marine needs to be able to jump over railings and skulks etc.. So if anything I'd keep the height but lower the animation position slightly.
I want to be able to crouch in mid air like NS1.
Re: Naming the September Content Update - Natural Selection 2
How about a name that average steam guy Joe doesn't need to google first, hmm? A first impression impact is worthless if the definition of the word you're using to imply a new and improved version of your product needs to first be defined to the person you're trying to strike.
A lot of the names being proposed are terrible for this reason. Catalysis, while cute, isn't what I would use either. On top of it not being simple to define or even translate in relevance to an update - it's difficult to even pronounce.
Out of the suggestions so far, I would vote for Biomass also. A simple word, alien-esqe, easy to read and pronounce in the head, ties together to the actual content of the update.
Edit:
As for the content its self, I'm pretty interested in some of it. Female marines, biodome and a linux client/server are all very worthy additions when trying to do some marketing. Still, the most important thing for me, is still missing.
An interactive, integrated, brief, enjoyable scripted tutorial map.
At the very least, remove the extremely outdated stuff.
And when you find the time. A demo system.

Re: Aliens vs. Marines, new build 250 is broken!
MisterNubs wrote: »How the hell is every build 250 post filled with people complaining about Marines are overpowered when Aliens hold 67% out of ~175 competitive matches and ~56% of public for build 250?
Because aliens require teamwork now when they didn't before (same with NS1). You're more likely to see more team work in a competitive match (because they're team vs team), hence why there is an 11% difference between the two. You hardly get teamwork in a pug server unless someone good steps up to the plate and the others follow (because the good player said so).
The reason why players think aliens are weak is because late game alien tech still sucks harder than a dual turbo powered vacuum cleaner, and the ridiculous amount of coordination it takes to break a 1 base marine team that only gets stronger as the game progresses even with 1 cc. Alien sieges are basically an all-in deal, you will lose your lifeform during the siege where marines can just pew pew outside the hive room or through a wall.
Add in that late game marine tech turn them into an unstoppable death ball. Means winning as aliens is long and drawn out due to marine turtle but losing as aliens is a painful death dictated by how ever fast or slow the marines want to go.
Start talking about getting 50/50 balance when losing as aliens is as fun as losing as marines.
Re: Mods Help (Steam Workshop Mods)
Also, you'd have to unsub from all of them from their respective Steam Workshop page. Otherwise they will simply redownload upon NS2 restart.
Unsub needs to be in game for easier access though

Re: Tutorial Video Changes
We have been working with It's Super Effective to create new in game videos that will play in the readyroom and will be redoing the other short in game vids as well. These things take time, and we are doing our best to get them into the game as soon as we can.
Re: Camo acting strange now?
I had something similiar happen once. I was shooting a cloaked skulk on a wall in comp lab (near the vent). He jumped off the wall and suddenly disappeared. I was high when it happened, so I didn't give it much attention and figured it was time to sleep.
Tutorial Video Changes
I really don't want to sound like a broken record here. This is the third time I've made a topic addressing the same issue, but nothing has been done and I'm not really sure what else I can do at this point.
Once UWE announced that build 250 was going to be ported into the game, I made a topic raising concerns about the tutorial videos. I pointed out that they would become extremely outdated once the new build was released. At this point I was assured by Hugh that the video tutorial system would be revamped in the weeks leading up to the release of build 250. It never was. Because no changes were made, I made a second thread at the release of build 250, where I pointed out that the in-game tutorial videos, along with a number of explore mode descriptions and commander tooltips, were now outdated and inaccurate. And nothing was done.
Frankly, I don't know how else to say this. NS2 has a serious player retention problem. An extremely small percentage of the people who have purchased it play it regularly. I think that one of the foremost causes of this issue is the fact that it's so hard for new players to learn the game. The game has a steep enough learning curve as it is and the developers presenting new players with misinformation only further complicates the problem. The last two sales didn't retain a significant population of new players and I wouldn't be surprised if the summer sale doesn't either.
Anyway, this is the last time I'm going to bring this up because I don't want to be too much of a squeaky wheel. Hopefully UWE has heard my concerns, and it's now up to them whether they want to take them into account. I do hope that they choose to make these updates by the time the next big content update hits in September.
My suggestions for better in-game videos, in the off chance UWE decides to upload new content, would be:
TychoCelchuuu's NS2 Tutorial Videos - I have a soft spot for these as they are the videos that I learned from. Much more informative than the current videos and presented in a manner that is easier to swallow. They also include a new video summing up the changes that came in 250.
It's Super Effective's Tactical Operations Series - Extremely in depth, informative, very high production values, and updated with a new video explaining the 250 changes.
Soz's NS2 University - as of now just one video, with more on the way. Extremely impressed with this, covers all of the fundamentals accurately and in a manner that makes it easy to grasp for a newer player. Made in build 250, so no problems with outdated mechanics here.
