When we suggested another merc, rather...the SECOND we suggested another merc (Fiskbit). they ALL left the server.
Just to quote a few rules:

We also were able to field a second merc IMMEDIATELY. Which the second PP heard, they all left.
In general bad sportsmanship. We just wanted to play a game.

I have a ticket to the event that I cannot use. I'm sorry this is last minute but my travel plans fell through so if anyone needs a studio ticket please hit me up on STEAM: tagwolf
Thanks! -
I also was thinking commanders could like nano shield the gate and that would prevent the alien side from going through.
As far as performance impact. I really don't think it'd effect much. It'd be a small window with a shot view distanc… -
It's be cool if you could shoot through them too....
But to make it fair, aliens should be able to use them too.
I dunno. It's something I think would be cool to try and see how it worked. -

The main advantage of a 3rd hive is tech point denial and map control.

Plantronics 780. ~$50. Surround sound, great acoustics, great mic. Durable, and comfortable. I recommend 100%.

Yea, not worth the upgrade. It'd cost me $1000 for a cpu, mb, and memory. While I currently have an i7-920 which I overclocked from 2.67GHz to 4.2GHz. Unless I could hit hard numbers, even then, I'd maybe see a 20% increase *shrugs*.

Awwwwww. Dang.I agree with the single player part. This is a hard game to get into if A) you haven't played NS1, and b) you aren't willing to put the time into getting good.
While a story mode could be developed (something simple like BZ2 had), it wou…(Quote)
I *heard* rumors of multithreading server (+linux binaries) being worked on. Though I dunno if that's true. It's exciting either way!

You're absolutely right. Again, I apologize if I offended anyone. In my life and career I've had to be self-entitled and an asshole occasionally to get ahead and try to push out a better product. But this was outside the scope of m…And modest too!
No sorry. I know I came off "dickish". I get too worked up over engineering sometimes.
Apolo…Sorry about that. I certainly didn't mean to break any forum / copyright rules.
Regardless I hope devs find it interesting.(Quote)

Interesting read. But did you wrote it yourself?
And I miss the connection to NS2.

Can you please point me to the form rule that shows what you are talking about, as I gave full credit to the author and it's an important read.
Tyrsis, fair warning. You're WAY out of your league.
Yup..I'm clueless alright and have worked for about every IT company you've ever heard of as both a Director and a System Engineer.
To put it in terms you'll understand. I …Yup/ Awesome trending site btw.
You can see I the 18th, 19th, that choke didn't occur til that damn player #19th hopped on. Is not tied to entities in play from what I can help. It's all player overhead. Here's a good article that might help you understand a little more: http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2011/04/ask-ars…Also the fact you even mentioned an i7 for server use shows how you have a lot to learn about the difference between Server CPU's and Desktop CPU's.
They are completely different designs. In particular the L2/L3 Cache. Even server memory…I'm not misunderstanding. The damn server is up now and runs 18 people with 0 choke in an emulated Windows 7 VM.
The port to Linux will significantly improve performance. Especially in the way I can perform threading outside of a VM. Aga…Apparently they are working on the linux binaries...at least for Spark OpenGL code porting.
Check out my post on Linux Dedicated servers for more into. Thanks for all the interest guys. We've grown incredibly fast over the past 2 weeks and I've been extremely fortunate to have so many great and talented people, many of whom I consider friends, join up with us.

I can actually hit 18 players without choke running a Windows 7 VM on Ubuntu 12.04 x64 LTS. So it's not too shabby fortunately.
I stand corrected on the peep from devs. However I hope they also mean the server binaries.
I don't care much about running the game itself on linux. But others may. I dunno.

Yes. A Xeon X3320 SHOULD be plenty to run a dedicated server. I think you may be confused. Many many other game servers run higher player counts on lower hardware requirements. And NS2 really doesn't have that many entities to track in comparison.
