This is still an issue under Ubuntu 18.10, btw.
-
Fixed it by deleting the shaders.
Don't know what broke them, but deleting them resolves this. -
Have you tried to changing startup properties of NS2 in steam?
LC_ALL=en-GB.UTF-8 %command%
should change the locale the game runs in. -
So, dear devs, this isn't even worth mentioning in the known issues section of the change log?
-
Could any of the devs reply to this, plz? Is it coming back, or not!?

Btw: couldn't you just collect all our NS2 workarounds for Arch and upload them to AUR, for example as NaturalSelection2-workarounds?(Quote)
My guess is that since the officially supported Linux was Ubuntu 14.04, which includes the proper version, they just don't bother.
NS2 always was a game, that you can play on Linux, but its support is fuzzy at best.Spooky! So I was not imagining things... Because, you see, I heard voices, too (and had not have very much sleep the last few days)!
And to make it even spookier: I had not even played the game today, it happened 5 minutes after booting …Yes, the funny thing is: if you ask sh_teamstats, it mostly says somthing like 18/20 players are in their preferred team. At the same time 5 ppl complain that they got switched. That just doesn't add up.Well... under Linux it is under '~/.config/Natural Selection 2'. Thank Torvalds for auto-completion in terminal.
You have to realize: the devs just hate Linux, or Unix as a whole.
Oh, and to be helpful: in recent invalid data error Comment by mock September 2016After all these years I now get interested. Would anyone take me?
Or @trixX: maybe we should found an all Linux team!
And, in [TEAM EU] ATV Looking for members Comment by mock September 2016So... does this mean NS2 isn't even running on SteamOS anymore? Because THAT would be a proper reason to remove the Linux compatibility flag!(Quote)
Yes, I'm doing the same, especially on weekends. You can tell the weekend noobs a hundred times not to buy them. But they insist on chasing fades with jetpacks and GLs in Wooza's information wall Comment by mock September 2016Hm. In the system requirements on the store page Linux isn't even listed anymore. I guess trixX is right then.
In this case the question really is: why is it still promoted as Linux compatible, then!?Well, it has not crashed on me for years (except that one build, that got fixed in less than 24 hours). And I am on Arch, which means my systems configuration literally changes from day to day.
You can bash the devs all you want, but at …Well, the game itself runs fine for me. This problem is just caused by Arch being too edgy.
I just don't understand, why every other game I have installed, many of which don't even get upgrades anymore, don't have a problem with any libs…I guess in command mode the digit row is reserved for the hotkey bindings. I don't want to be rude, but if you are not using them, you should rethink your commanding. As a Marine Commander I have all my observatories bound to them (so a beacon is on…It reads like something is wrong with the fonts and GTK. Can you try to install or reinstall the Adwaita theme? Can confirm! Sound now works without the workaround I found!Strange... when I unpated to Kubuntu 16.04 beta, the sound stopped working once again. I assumed Ubuntu and Kubuntu use the same versions for alsa and pulse? You could of course download the old packages, compile them and but them either in the Ns2 or the Steam lib folder.
Or you switch distros... Had to do it twice now to keep Ns2 running. I highly recommend Manjaro. It's awesome.
But,…My dependency problems with pulse and alsa got resolved by editing the launch options for NS2 in steam. Try that:LD_LIBRARY_PATH="/usr/lib:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH" %command%
Damnit... maybe I should recover my Mailaccount from that time. The key must be somewhere there...
I just stumpled about a workaround found here: forums.kleientertainment.com/topic/29215-sound-sound-stopped-worki…I am on Linux, and it ran fine after the patch for me.
Would you provide the log to be found here: ~/.config/Natural Selection 2/log.txt@Kouji_San We have this one hanging in the office:
