• What distro are you using?
  Have you tried to select your mic in the systems sound options as standard? In most cases this should fix the problem.

• Try to delete ~/.config/Natural\ Selection\ 2/Workshop
  This does not fix the bug, but solves it temporally for me
  
  Edit: or set the launch options to "rm -rf ~/.config/Natural\ Selection\ 2/Workshop && LC_ALL=en_US %command%"
