Yes, I think that is the answer. Re-think the idea of what a "rookie" is. Or re-purpose some of these rookie servers for this mode. It would solve the problem. -

Apparently you didn't read all of my post. "Play now" doesn't solve this problem. I try Play Now and I get a) A server not running vanilla NS2 or b) A European 200+ ping server not worth playing on.

Just tried to play today. I couldn't again. This time I only waited about 20 minutes while I see 10 servers I can't join and ZERO ones I could. Next time I'll wait 10 minutes. Then I'll uninstall. Good job UWE. Way to go.

I figured it out. I had to turn the "bloom" video setting off. No idea why this laptop needs it off but oh well. Maybe its a windows 8.1 thing? Or a GeForce 860m thing, not sure. Thanks.

It is far more than an "L2P" issue for the comm. I believe the map still always blinks when something is under attack. But the comm has to constantly be checking the map for blinking in the base if he wants to be sure the base isn't getting wiped.…
