I think what I liked alot, was people actually stopping the use of lame tactics...At least it happened on the server I played on. Not many people did JP HMG rush, even though it was a guarenteed win...

Yea, there was a period of time where we had an unofficial 1.05. It basically consist of fixes to 1.04 that we thought were in 2.0. I only remember the jp fix and the hive self-umbraing tho.

And yea, the jp/hmg tactic, rail-handgun, silent bhop, and hitbox exploits were NOT features. You know its lame, I know its lame.

gah that debate again...I agree, except for sbhopping...because that actually took a little bit of skill, unlike JP HMGing or pistol scripting/mwheel attack

What did the other guy just say about not listing the bad things we all knew them and heck if you played any sort of clan pub with admins you would be booted so fast for even using any of them. Hmm so it seems that was a meta-mod was it im amazed I never remember any server I played on not having it... then again I loved lerk-lift (im off topic but let me relive my memory) with lerk-lift you could carry a gorge to a hive in seconds or pick him up and carry him away from marines its was great.

Plus I hate RFK its just another thing that adds to that slippery losing slope in NS its rather silly because if you get alot of kills that means your gonna get nodes and if you get the nodes + RFK then you easily have way more res then your oppenent does so you can have the better stuff to totally decimate your oppenent which will allow you to get even MORE RFK! Sure it could help in a come-back but not likely when one side has Skulks vs HA or vice versa Onos vs LMG its a bad system in my mind I liked it when you had to fight like hell to get the node then fight to hold it THEN get a gorge in to get a harvester on it (my crazy lingo ) and after that you would start to see some increased res flow. That what I liked that helped keep the game long and also keep boths sides at a slower rate of technology increase.

There was a 1.5!!!??! dear god why was that not released!? I will stab someone for it. It has all the fixes? If that bad boy was released I would play that so much and relive my childhood

Its 1.05 not 1.5, and I said UNOFFICIAL. Community members decided on a few metamods that would 'fix' 1.04, and if you have all these mods on your server running, you can label your server '1.05'. It wasnt Flayra-endorsed in any way.

/stuck was the coolest thing ever

if you got bored and wanted to have a good time the whole server would start /stuck'ing into weird places. marines would relocate to ridiculous places. hilarious talk with teammates as you try to be quiet and hide from the aliens. hehe. soo fun.

Yeah your right sniff sniff just was thinking how cool it be to get that old 1.4 feel back (very few people want to set up a server and run it again and since I have no server to setup I rely on the support of veiwers like you )

What I liked about 1.04 ?

-Onos was awe-inspiring, you lost the game if they got one or two
-Properly functioning attacks, like leap, charge and Acid Rocket
-Hives were really important, so none of this "Well, the Hive is under attack ... I don't care, I'll rebuild it later"
- No RFK, seems people like going rambo to get Onos as soon as possible, and then whine that they get killed after 3 seconds
- Lerk with spikes ... makes me think about the times I would fly to the ledges on top of Powersilo and take 10 minutes to spike all the marine buildings out of there
- Lack of devour or stomp ... in 1.04 when you got killed you wanted to respawn cause you wanted to kill that Onos, now you don't wanna respawn cause it will eat you and run off, and repeat that process for about an hour.

mmmm bast, I miss the old fade blink, and how jp and hmg were so god-like. imo jp used to be alot better.

BTW does anyone still have 1.04 or pre 1.0 copys of ns?

I'd love to go back and play some 1.0 nancy, and have to onos ontop of structures so i didint get stuck.

Indeed. If I'm not mistaken, 1.04 Onos had marine sized hulls. Thus it would not get stuck in Nancy.. infact, after going back and doing a quick check, 1.04 onos did infact, not get stuck. Anywhere.

It was later in 2.0 that Onos was given a larger hull.. One that was twice the size of a marine.

Since it seems some people cannot be bothered to read the entire topic here is the link to get 1.04 again. You only need 1.0 client unless you are going to put up a server. It is not steam compatable so you gotta have a plain ol HL install to play. HF

I loved the challenge to defend the second hive against jp+hmgs. With two hives you had leap, umbra, fades+acid rocket and web. Those were good back then but still it was hard especially against skilled JPers. Defending hive needed a lot of teamplay but it was great fun in my opinion. Usually everyone came to the hive if it was under attack though many times it was already too late.

lol everyone is talking about onos being so dangerous. I bet ya'll havent seen an onos more than twenty times, if not even ten. Fades were the game ender, with their acid rockets.

The game didnt end when they got one or two onos, it ended when they got one or two fades.

It was probably over when they got fades. It WAS over when they got oni. using charge and gore you could destroy a TF in 2 seconds, turrets took half a second, same for marines.

He's kinda right onos were very rare it was usually a skilled fade that ended it for the game. Onos back then was just something for fun like say your totally decimating them and you get all the nodes and for giggles you get your entire team to go onos or a very long game and you somehow saved up enough for an onos and you were gonna take em out. Fades were very dangerous back then but not really unstoppable like an onos they were more dangerous in the fact that a skilled player was crazy with it but still had a normal amount of life and a skilled marine could beat it unlike say the Onos which has a massive amount of health and armor and that Stomp/Devour means your gonna lose no matter what agaisnt an onos.

Fades were the uber-soldier badass, sleak, strong (kinda like a nice car) but the thing was if you were a lone skilled marine with a shotgun you actually might stand a chance or heck lv3 lmg if your feeling brave. (though great faders who could blink... DAMN their behind you before you even figured it out )

there were no stomp and devour in 1.04 nor did many people use shotguns since their insanely slow RoF.

EDIT: If there was an sg marine, you would just AR him anyway.

Did I SAY THAT WAS 1.4... what are you stupid of course there wasnt devour or stomp there was primal scream and para I was referring to the fact you cant beat a onos at all because that combo is godly (then again para was just a short range stomp just a little harder to hit) Dont say something stupid like that telling me there was no stomp or devour back then. Thats just silly. I was showing the difference between the fade back in 1.4 which was the common big enemy and Onos in 2.0 which is the common big enemy now and if you cant make that connection without me having to tell you good god.

Yes acid rocket was pretty good but in some of the corridors it was quicker and easier to get behind them and swipe them.

Considering that you mentioned the Onos in a discussion about 1.04 and did not specify that you were referring to 2.0, it was implied that you were referring to the 1.04 Onos. Do not assume that people will read your mind.
