How The **** Do You Uninstall Msn 4.7?

Read on please.
I have windows xp pro, apparently msn 4.7 is installed. I never use it but it still starts and logs in every time I get into windows. I've already turned off the option "start when windows starts", and that did not help. Than I went to software, but it just isn't in the list.

So how the **** do I get it removed? It annoys me sooooooooo much.

Easily, go to start menu, go to run and type msconfig, on the very right hand sided tab where it says (startup items) and lists a nice long list, uncheck it.

You can uninstall Windows Messenger (not Windows' messenger Lanfear was talking about, which is something completely different but still very useful to get rid of) here. I had to do both methods to get rid of it. If you use Outlook Express, you should do this too.

I don't know if I have service pack 1 installed. The site said:

    Control Panel
    Add / Remove Programs
Click on "Add/Remove Windows Components" on the left
    UNcheck "Windows Messenger"
    Click "NEXT"
    Click "Finish"
    Reboot

UNcheck "...", is MSN Explorer the same?

I do NOT use Outlook... I never have.

Thanks for the site, by the way.

What? This is MSN Explorer you want to remove?

(Check for sp1 by right-clicking on my computer > properties. It will tell you in the 'system' list)

No, I want MSN 4.7 removed. But I don't see that in the list. So I'm asking: is Explorer the same?

Just download MSN 6.0 and overwrite it :\

I got 6.1 installed, but 4.7 is still here. And it starts every time I get into Windows.

Then open it, go options, and de-check the box that asks you if you want it to be started when windows starts. It'll still be there, but its only like 1mb. Not that much of a problem.

Put this in the Run box:

    RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

And press "OK". That'll uninstall it.

Messenger is built into the operating system and can't be separated, like media player and internet explorer are. If you don't believe me, just search for info on any of Microsoft's anti-trust lawsuits. Windows can't exist without an instant messenger attached to it!

Clarification: MSN Instant Messenger; NOT MSN the annoying thing that comes at the worst times asking you to buy condoms or other inappropriate products and will only let you get rid of it by clicking the OK button.

    Unless I'm wrong...

Deleting the exe is the fastest way of ridding yourself of that plague.

Personally, I use Trillian for my IM needs...
